Cleary a go for Tuesday; Hasek has flu

I'm getting worried about Flip. Knee and groin injury, doesn't sound good. He was expected to miss 2 games now there's a chance he might not play again before the playoffs. And then you know he won't be 100% fit when he does make it back out there.

And there goes his chance for a 20 goal season. :(

come on people it's just the flu ... although ... flu backward is ulf ... like ulf samuelsson, who was one of the biggest dicks the nhl has ever seen ... and the dick is part of the groinal area ... oh no! it is his groin!

on a side note, good to see danny back ... does anyone know how much weight he lost, if any, with his jaw wired?

I think in an interview a couple weeks back he mentioned he had lost 15 pounds or so.

Great news on Cleary, Stuart, and Mac. I know we've all been itching to see Darren in the lineup and see if he's still got what it takes.

For everyone bashing on Hasek because he has the flu, WHY? Have you never had the flu before? Have you not had the flu this year? It's really bad this year. I had it a couple of weeks ago and it lasts a couple of days. For those of you not understanding why he can't still back up, because " Ozzie backed up earlier this year when he had the flu". Well its awfully hard to be a back-up when your head is hanging over a toilet the entire day isn't it. Obviously Ozzie wasn't hanging his head over a toilet when he had the flu, because the Red Wing staff wouldn't have allowed him to back up. I understand that we're all getting anxious and tired of Hasek being in and out,if he's gonna be in playoff form or not, but my goodness, if they say he has the flu, he has the flu.

With that said, GO WINGS!!! I hope Danny lights up tonight in his return, and i will be at work for the game.

Relevant point but none the less A) I'm quite skeptical about him actually having the flu and if it were any other player around this time of year, you know you'd be saying the same thing and B) he's still missing MORE time that he needs to get rolling. It's looking like more and more of a gamble to go with a goalie who hasn't played consistently well let alone consistently at all for the entire year. I'm hardly and Osgood fan-boy and I haven't been particularly impressed with him anymore than Hasek lately at all, but if you don't see how silly this is looking, you're just kidding yourself. I'm not saying he won't start or couldn't even be great and stay healthy, I'm just, the more this goes on and the closer it gets, the bigger the gamble and with someone like Osgood who's more than capable of stepping up, he's beginning to look like the better choice. It's not 1998 anymore.

A) Not so much. We're still 2 or 3 weeks away from the playoffs. They aren't going to be able to get away with saying "Boy, Dom's flu is really hanging around!" if he stays out of the lineup. I would be more concerned if they were like "He's going to be out 2 weeks with a shoulder injury" or something. And it's not like teams can go after an injured goalie the way they can another player. If you know someone's foot is hurt, maybe a little slash or two. What's another team gonna do if Dom's groin is injured? Make him go post-to-post, like you don't try to do that anyway? Shy of this turning into the mysterious illness he got right after we traded for him, it's a non-issue.

B) He played consistently well for 3 1/2 flipping months. He's been dinged a few times this year, but the fact is, with the lead we've had for most of the year there's no reason to take chances with anyone. Especially not Hasek, with the way Osgood has played. Why risk anything? For all we know, he could've played if they had really needed him during the time he was out. They said that was the case during one of his injuries.

Also, by all accounts (which honestly shocked me), he was brilliant in his last two starts. I didn't see either game so I can't comment on what I saw, but when Hasek can give up 3 goals and people on this board are still talking about how he played out of his gourd, you know he was amazing.

Yes it sucks that he's out when he could be getting on a roll heading up to playoff time. But really, he's going to miss like 1 game, assuming the flu is the flu and not "Dom had his arm amputated and we're not telling anyone." It's not like Osgood wasn't going to play again the rest of the year.

It's not a gamble to start a guy in the playoffs who might get hurt. If he does, you go with the backup. And this backup would do just fine. But I don't see the logic in saying "Dom's been hurt a couple times this year, so it's a gamble to start him." Unless he gets hurt during a play and it costs us a goal (unlikely), there's not really a downside. If he gets hurt, the other guy comes in and he'll do fine. If he doesn't get hurt, sweet! He didn't get hurt!

I'm much more concerned with Flip and Holmstrom than I am about Dom having the flu.

I know I would be terrible at running the team, but come one. Why is Sammy on the #1 line? What has he done to grant him this position? I must have missed something.

I agree. Not only has Franzen earned a spot on the #1 line, but he also plays like Homer, which is good for 40/13s rhythm going into playoffs.

its good to see Cleary back it will definataly be a boost for the wings as for Hasek the flu has been going around the locker room lately just so long as he only misses one game or so
