40#1Fan 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2008 http://redwingscorner.blogspot.com/ Tomas Holmstrom (abdomen) said that he felt much better today and could return as early as Wednesday although Thursday is more likely. Holmstrom felt positive that he'd be back on the ice for Thursday's home game. Holmstrom said his straight-line skating is the most problematic thing with this injury. -- Dominik Hasek will start in net Wednesday and Sunday. Chris Osgood will get Thursday's game. -- Mikael Samuelsson didn't skate and spent his morning on the training table. Coach Mike Babcock said that Samuelsson was feeling better, but there is no date set for his return. -- Brad Stuart went through the whole practice. He could pass fine. He could a little, but not with any authority. Stuart said that he's expecting to return sometime next week. There's not much that can be done for his broken finger other than taping it. Among them is defenseman Brad Stuart, who is passing and shooting the puck -- a good sign for a player with a broken finger. Stuart is slated to return for the first round of the playoffs, perhaps even as early as the post-season opener.

puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted March 31, 2008 Stuart is a tough guy, he will play through it knowing him. He won't want to miss any more action than he can help.
redwings56 1 Report post Posted March 31, 2008 Good news all around, no date for Sammy and Homer is feeling good. It is nice to see Dom back. on a side note: Is Datsyuk a shoe-in to win...i mean be awarded the lady byng this year? with only 20 pim and 3rd in the leage in points. I really am backing on him winning the Selke, he is very responsible defensively.

Greatness=PavelDatsyuk 65 Report post Posted March 31, 2008 I sure hope not... he needs to get in a fight... get his ass kicked or kick some ass i don't care... he doesn't need to win that silver....again.... The wings don't need him to fight, they've got guys like Downey and McCarty for that. When he needs to, he hits, but hes not made for fighting and i don't think he should Go Datsyuk, win the lady byng again

When he needs to, he hits, but hes not made for fighting and i don't think he should Go Datsyuk, win the lady byng again my point was moreso... i don't feel comfortable having any of our players win an award the Paul Karyia dominated for so many years.... he doens't have to fight maybe a double minor for boarding or something... ANYTHING to get his name out of consideration for the Lady Karyia award!

Sportsmanship is big part of the game. Pavel is awesome player and any award he gets is only plus.

It's the award for the player who plays smart hockey, doesn't take stupid penalties that cost team's wins, and who can also play a very good offense game, and who doesn't fight for the sake of just fighting. But to the OP, let's hope Stuart is back for at least a game before the playoffs start. Does anyone know where he broke his finger, is it toward the tip or towards the base of the hand? The tip you can play with while broken, but if it is close to his palm part of the hand then he won't be able to play til' probably the playoffs =(
Opie 308 Report post Posted April 1, 2008 Sportsmanship is one of the biggest problems in the game right now, very few players have any respect for each other any more. I started a thread about "What it means to be a Red Wing" and I will reference it here again because I am reading it and it is fresh in my mind. A lot of the players in that book talk about hating a guy off the ice but on the ice was different, I can't remember who it was from the 50's that was saying he used to go up against Richard and if Richard had a chance to nail a guy, but the puck was gone he used to just say something as he skated by or would tap them on the top of the head with their stick just to let guys know he could have really hurt them. But he would also do it with a smile or while laughing because he had respect for the guys. Now had the guy had the puck still in his possession he probably would have got creamed. The other thing that they mention in the book is that back then there was no such thing as an enforcer, if you couldn't stick up for yourself, you were in the minors, if you couldn't play defense, you were in the minors. The wings were one of the few teams associated with minor/junior league clubs, so they had a lot more depth than other teams, and if you didn't fit Adams style you were gone! What makes that worse is he was the GM not the coach!
