BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Anyone EVER hear other teams get interviewed? The Joe is one of, if not THE least favorite arena for them to play, in part due to the fans. They say it is difficult to play there. Isn't the visitor's locker room at JLA really small and crappy? That's reason enough to be the least favorite place to play. OsGOD 3 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 (edited) I used to relax... now the constant knocking of the Joe and the fans at the joe has reached the overload limit... Plus i like to hear why people who have never been there think the crowd is lacking something they have never witnessed in the first place... It kinda blows my mind how people can make such baseless claims Isn't the visitor's locker room at JLA really small and crappy? It kinda blows my mind how people can make such baseless claims and its painted some puke color people make judgments based on the evidence they have. if all people have is tv, that's how they'll base their judgments. it's not baseless, maybe, in your eyes, inaccurate, but people are comparing two legitimate bodies of evidence. Statiklullaby87 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 I've heard that a lot of those arenas have mic's pointing to the crowd then its played over the loudspeaker so it seems WAY louder than it actually is, I know they said the oilers did it against us in the playoffs, maybe nashville does it too? Do we do it? jw

Statiklullaby87 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 So does that mean you think nashville mic's the crowd? What do you think about the concept?
OsGOD 3 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 So does that mean you think nashville mic's the crowd? What do you think about the concept? Most likely, but that is also just an assumption there too... nothing to back it up how do i feel about the concept? pretty cool... although i am not one of the ones using the "loudness" as a medium to bash the fans that actually attend the game either... To each team their own i guess with that one... CBC notoriously has louder games too... watch the same game on VS as on CBC and you will notice a difference right off the bat. HockeytownRN 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 (edited) Isn't the visitor's locker room at JLA really small and crappy? That's reason enough to be the least favorite place to play. I've been in the visitors locker room during the Toast, but didn't think it was THAT bad. Remember when Scotty had the room painted just before a game? Anyways, the opposing teams always talk about how difficult it is playing at the Joe. I'm sure the locker rooms don't have much to do with it; however. I feel as passionate about this as Osgod does, because i've spent a crapload of money in my lifetime on attending Wings games. I think if you've never been to a playoff game, you absolutely can't judge by watching a game on TV. You HAVE to be there to feel the electricity in that building. I've been to regular season games where i've been disappointed in the crowd, and basically the top seats are the ones trying to get the chants going and it fizzles out. The last Dallas home game was the best game i've been to this year. It was LOUD and the Joe rocked. Nothing pisses me off more than seeing all of those empty seats from VIP holders who either don't attend, or sit in the Olympia room talking business. I spoke with a guy who works and markets the suites, and he told me that they are trying to get season ticket holders to let them know if they aren't attending the game, and they will try to fill those seats with Iraq veterans, which I thought is an awesome idea if they can do it.; however, in playoff games that place is amazing. I've sat in great lower bowl seats many times, and most people around me know hockey and are into the game, and sometimes there are "prissy" people who give you the look for cheering loudly.....which makes me cheer even louder!! I was at the game that Stevie got the puck in the eye, and I swear you could hear a pin drop as the whole arena stood watching. I have only had amazing experiences during playoff games, even in three overtimes where the place was still packed with people on a week day. So don't judge what you "hear" or don't hear on TV as it does not compare. Edited April 17, 2008 by HockeytownRN
Learn2LuvIt 252 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 (edited) Experience I've been to playoff games in both Det and Nash...and I would say that although the Joe is loud, it's not as loud as Nashville. I think SOME of our fans take the Wings for granted, especially with our consistent stellar play the last few years during the regular season. So, they go down to the Joe and expect to cheer for the Wings domination of other teams and are prepared to stand up a couple times during the game to high-five after the Wings score. Why do we cheer? We cheer to motivate and show support of our team. Do we need to cheer and be loud if the Wings are winning the game? We should, but I don't see if very much at the Joe. I've been to Friday night games when the Wings are up by two goals, and the crowd is excited and happy the Wings are winning, ...but in certain cases, it's almost expected so the crowd is just sitting quietly watching the Wings dismantle the other team. Which to SOME poeple may equate to...."why should we cheer for our team...we are winning and dominating the game...is there something else we are trying to motivate our team to do?" So, I truely believe that SOME of our fan base, doesn't have a lot of experience in cheering (except for after goals or major "key play"). For all of us who DO go down to the Joe or any arena around the country to support the Wings and scream, clap, chant, sing, laugh, cry, swear, berade opposing team, harass opposing team's fans (in a respectful way), start the "wave", start the "Let's Go Red Wings" chant, almost pee yourself cause you can't stand to go to the bathroom during play, bring a Sharpie in case of autograph opportunity, wear your Wings jersey, think pretty much any girl cheering for the Wings at a game is HOT, etc..... For all of us/you, "I'll be your Wing man any day." (Top Gun reference...I apologize in advance). Go Wings and lets start matching our teams talent with our "fan talent!" VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 I haven't gotten to one yet this year (hopefully I will have a shot in round two......cough cough) but it sure as hell seems like the preds fans are always standing up and hooting and hollering. They were standing I think the last four mins of the game and going wild. I would kill to see that at our games. Hell, if its loud now (according to some on here) lets make it louder. Bring bottles full of change or those stupid hand clappers or anything. Hell even sneak an airhorn in like the good old days. The Joe has been one of the loudest arenas in th eplayoffs this year. So long as all the fairweather fans stay out, the Joe should be rocking and energized for Game 5.
TJH9635 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 I completely agree, I think Detroit fans might be loud, but they're not energetic. I've been to games through the season, and we clap and dance, and cheer, and granted it may sound loud, but I think fans need to be a little more energetic. I'm a huge Wings fan. But I'm also a huge Habs fan. I watch as many games as I can on CBC, and the one thing I notice, Canadian fans get way more into it. Calgary, for example, they're slogan is Sea of Red, and I swear almost every Calgary fan in the stands has something red on. We've done those slogans in the past, and I can't recall actually seeing the whole arena packed with red. Fans need to get more into the situations, the PP, the PK, everything. Lets cheer on the boys and bring another cup home!!
