Yeah, coming to this thread late I have no idea what the shot is. In the future whoever posts something that changes daily should host the original shot on say Photobucket so it would be here permanently. Or at least more permanently than a 24-hour period.

Kind of makes you wonder how it was taken...
That photo, and some other cool pre-game photos were taking by team photographer Dave Reginek and posted on Getty Images web site (Getty partners with the NHL). Based on being taken from several angles, it appears Reginek was shooting from the catwalk during the warm-ups. My guess is he used a 300mm lens on a dSLR and fired the arena strobes via a PocketWizard wireless remote. There are also some nice over-the-net photos from the game posted to Getty's site (www.gettyimages.com look in the "Editorial" area), but they appear to be taken from a mounted remote camera. For safety reasons, most venues won't let photographers remain on overhead catwalk out of fear of something (batteries, cell phones, etc.) being accidently dropped and hurting a player or interrupting the game.

Speaking of that photo, I was at the last game against Chicago and I saw a photographer setting up for a very cool photo of the practice pucks getting dumped on the ice. The guy had a fish-eye lens on his camera and held the camera just off to the side about a foot off the ice and had it aimed into the player's face. That would have been one cool photo.
