Bettman strikes again, this time, the Ducks.

This can't be real. There's no way Burke would allow Bettman to do this.

Burke's powerful but he's no Lou Lamourello. ;)

Burke will whine like little boy about this.

and you know, it's just so good to see this. first whiner's bunch of goons

is schooled in Round 1 and then Scotty "All Star" Niedermayer gets fined

for part-time hockey.

that's really priceless. enjoy your golfing, Brian!

I actually think it's a good move. I mean, I guess they're right in a lot of ways that he broke some rules, and even if it was all legit, you don't want people to get to thinking that this is a good idea. I might be overreaction, but I can think of a lot stupider moves that Bettman's made. My only question is why now and not 3-4 months ago?

sounds like the NHL is trying to beat burke at his own game. the ducks suspend neidermeyer so his salary wouldn't count against the cap while he "contemplated retirement." the league fines neidermeyer for missing training camp without permission. burke says they gave him permission, but if they did give neidermeyer permission then why was he suspended? well played mr. bettman.

Huh.

So Burke tries to make things look legit (or he's pissed that Needavacation's waffling cost them position for the playoffs and ultimately, the first round). And now the LEAGUE is trying to bail out Niedermayer so he doesn't have to pay the fine.

...the league, in concert with the NHL Players' Association, is apparently negotiating to ensure that some or all of Niedermayer's fine doesn't actually have to be paid.

Burke/NHL Front Office Conspiracy is officially back on!

If there's a reason to be critical of the league, this is it. That's where the righteous indignation should be aimed.

Either it's a good rule that should stay or it's a bad rule that should be terminated. Make up your mind.

The NHL and the NHLPA need to decide what it's going to be, but it sure doesn't seem that Scott Niedermayer or the Ducks are being unduly punished, not as near as I can tell.

Now? Why did he wait so long? Weird.

This ones easy. He probably bet $500 000 on the Ducks to win, and when they were out he needed an easy excuse to make quick money.

Anyways... I actually agree with Bettman on this one. You have a comittment.. make it.

EDIT: After reading the article posted by Blackhawks fan I would have to take back my compliment towards Bettman as he apparently had nothing to do with it...

Ideally, he'll be heading to a new job soon.

oh yeah... a captain being first to jump off the sinking ship...

he left Vancouver heading into mediocrity and now leaves Ducks

which'll need serious reconsideration to be kept on top (if not

in playoff picture) next season.

way to go, the very best GM in NHL now. wait... not.

I have trademarked "Scotty Needavacation". I'll see you in court...

I just read this article too. If the league allows this to slide it needn't try to defend itself for being a massive joke.

Once again, a handful of GM's have the commissioners office in their back pocket.

For the 2nd team to trigger this CBA clause, I would fight to the bitter end that it's also wiped clean from the books. Why is it fair that Anaheim gets away with this but nobody else, here on out, can't?

I've always been someone that's defended the league but I can't anymore.

Clearly the NHL is simply an old boys club. One that allows it's more popular members immunity from certain rules while others are treated like lepers.
