IS it just me or did someone on here on the great LGW.com coin the nickname "MULE" for the great Johan Franzen?

i could have sworn a veteran member said: "wow, what a work horse franzen was out there tonight. he really grinds. like a ... MULE. thats it. his new nickname is MULE."

or something to that effect.

just curious.

BTW 5 goals in 2 games. unconscious play by him. and the entire team for that matter. we fixed all the mistakes we made in game 1 and played out of our minds. keep up the good work.

if this should go in the FRANZEN thread that was started today, by all means mods, do your thang.

PEACE!

Stevie gave him the nick name...

i think the only nick name that LGW is responsible for for Franzen is Franzenstein...

oh and we called Lilja the Pain Train first.

Don't forget Rex. However these haven't really caught on with the hockey world at large (yet.)

There is a a really cool interview on NBC following yhe win yesterday with McGuire and Franzen, and Pierre asked Franzen where the nickname came from, and of course he said Steve Yzerman. I am know I am not the first on here to say that, but yep.

Stevie Y, dang ! I miss him ! Mule is an appropriate NN for Franzen. He works hard out there and is a stubborn finisher @ the net..............creates alot of chances for teammates too......Makes the opposition work a heck of alot harder to try and defend us overall............

So is this the really reason the nickname MULE happened? I heard him say Stevie gave it to him but Mule didn't quite explain the reason. A shame only one octopus went flying.

Someone get hit with it in the stands?

Yeah, Stevie game him the nickname because he said he could carry the weight of opposing players hanging on him but still charge in and score a goal.

"Rex" started when some sports writer thought his name was Rex Hudler in an article. I remember reading the original article last year. He also called Kronwall "Kronvall" in it.

I know, I saw the original thread, but that was because the writer, or some editor, confused Jiri with Rex Hudler the former Montreal Expo. Rex then semi-stuck around here as a nickname. I like it. Much MUCH better than Huddles. (Who besides his wife would call a grown man Huddles?)
