puertoricanWingsfan 5 Report post Posted May 2, 2008 7-0 was more impressive, 8-2 was freakin hilarious
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted May 2, 2008 I never laughed so much as tonight. That doesn't make it impressive, it makes it embarcing for them. This team was no match for us, the 2002 game was a game seven and was the last game between closely matched rivals. It was far more impressive, anyone who thinks otherwise is just riding the adrenaline.
pjgj13 30 Report post Posted May 2, 2008 Don't forget that in '02 that 7-0 drubbing was the clincher to get to the the finals....
C-Dub 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2008 7-0 for sure, it shouldn't even be a discussion. Tonight's game was great but against a banged up Avs team that could do way better. Just imagine how we would look without Lids, Dats, and Hank...the Avs had major injuries during this series which was the main reason this turned into a one-sided affair/sweep. Not to take anything away from the Wings, they of course did a great job capitalizing...
Shockwave180 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2008 7-0, of course. That game exhorcised so many demons. It will always be my favorite Wings game of all time (aside from Cup clinchers, of course), and it would take something monumental to top it. Tonight was still very sweet, though. For those of us who lived through the the late nineties (particularly '99 and 2000), the mere thought that we would one day be sweeping the Avalanche aside like a mildly irritating gnat was a faint dream. 7-0 turned that on its head, and this series really confirmed that times sure have changed. And tonight was the exclamation mark.

Vladiator 116 Report post Posted May 2, 2008 Yeah the 7-0 win in a game 7 was the best. To sum that all up we won that series, won the Cup, chased Roy out of the net and into retirement. The sweep against the Avs is awesome, but it won't matter for anything until they bring home the Cup.
ILWingsFan1 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2008 7-0 Was against Roy, enough said. My thoughts exactly.
RedLightGoesOn 81 Report post Posted May 2, 2008 I have to agree with everyone, 7-0 was epic, it reminds me of the saying he who laughs last laughs the loudest, and after 2002 the rivalry ended with Detroit coming back and winning 7-0 in game 7, then going on to win the Cup. We destroyed Roy, and dismantled the team that should have beat us, and shut them out. You cant get any better on a text book domination. Tonights game was a surprise, but let me say Detroit showed that they can win a cup, they just didnt get by an "injured Avs team" tonight, they massacred them, which is what any championship contender would have done. dgodzina 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2008 2002 because of the reasons mentioned before this post and, just as importantly, every game in the that series was down to the wire (except for game 1 i suppose) and you expected a very close game 7 based on the previous games
Millertime 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2008 I really want an 8-2 supporter to reply with their reasoning... Im not a supporter, but the Avs fans payed money to watch that game. You gotta at least chuckle at that.
wingsgirl001 983 Report post Posted May 2, 2008 Although last night was really amusing and awesome, I gotta go with 2002. Beating Waa 7-0 was just...priceless
va Winger 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2008 You are kidding right ? game 7 of the finals, series tied 3 to 3, @ JLA. McCarty hat trick, Roy's swan song...........No comparison to last nights debaucle................
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted May 2, 2008 7-0 without a doubt. Chasing one of the greatest goalies ever and the Avs had a better (and healthy) team. Last night was impressive, but not like the 2002 game was.
C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2008 Im not a supporter, but the Avs fans payed money to watch that game. You gotta at least chuckle at that. That's a good point...I guess the other devil's advocate point would be to broaden it to the whole series being a beatdown as someone else kind of mentioned. Unless you were born in 2003, I don't see how you vote for last night though. 7-0's the game I pop into the DVD player to experience total enjoyment while watching a hockey game. Opie 308 Report post Posted May 2, 2008 I said 8-2 and here is why. 7-0 game: Hated rival, shot at the Stanley cup, all the reasons that you guys mentioned for the 7-0 game being more impressive lead to an overall strong effort from the team. Last night, A limping half dead team, no rivalry, 3-0 in the series, all of the reason that you guys say the win wasn't as impressive, give the wings the perfect excuse to let up. They didn't, they played the whole game at 100% go mode. There was no let up, even when they were destroying a crippled (by injuries not slamming them), they controlled the puck and had the mentallity that there was no way they were even going to give Avs even a glimmer of hope. Yes the 7-0 was probably the best Red Wing playoff game I have ever watched, but what impressed me the most was not the overall outcome of the game but the way the Wings played the game. They had already displayed the ability to whoop COL's asses, chased the goalie 2x in 3 games, scored 4+ in 3 games, the team they were facing was decimated with injuries, they had every reason to not play at 100%. Yet what did they do for 60 minutes last night, they played at 100%! But feel free to say that I was born after 2003, or I am dumb or all the other reasons you guys have already come up with. But, I was very very impressed with the effort the boys put out there last night, that is the type of effort that could lead to the cup. Giving up on a team or thinking and playing like you have the series in the bag, is what leads to teams like Nashville crawling back into a game or a series. Real1 2 Report post Posted May 2, 2008 I have to say the 8-2 game was better. It was in Colorado, we kicked there asses, and we won the series.
Chris L 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2008 I say 7-0 in 2002. The Avs were a worthy opponent, and Hasek had something to prove against Roy. Classic good hockey Last night was pathetic. The Avs gave up this series in Game 1 and its shown all the way through. Forsberg not playing because of a wonky groin? WTF? Boy he didn't want the Cup this year. Its playoff time! Fight through that s***! Just sad, and that symbolized the whole Avs team in this series. Sad. Beating up on the Avs was a lot like Detroit beating up on an AHL team, which it sorta was considering all the guys the Avs had to call up.
