Congrats Ozzie!

DALLAS -- Chris Osgood's 16 saves in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals against the Stars gave him his 47th career playoff victory with the Red Wings, moving him into a tie with Terry Sawchuk for the club record.

OAS_AD('ArticleFlex_1');"It's a nice accomplishment," Osgood said after the 5-2 victory at American Airlines Center. "I didn't have any idea. It's nice. That's one of them I would have liked to get; I didn't know about it, though. I'm happy about. There's three things I've always said I want: Win a Cup, get 400 wins and pass Sawchuk. Those are individual goals I strive for, and that's a nice thing, that's something I'll look back on."

Dating to Game 5 in the first round against Nashville, Osgood has won nine straight games, tying the franchise record. Sawchuk won eight straight playoff games in 1952 and the first playoff game in 1953, and Osgood won the last five games in the 1998 playoffs and the first four in the 1999 playoffs.

Osgood's strong playoff performance comes after he went 27-9-4 during the regular season, posting an NHL-best 2.09 goals-against average.

"He was our best goalie all year," Mike Babcock said. "He won the most games. He played really, really well. And he played well last year. Ever since he's worked on his butterfly, he's been back to being a real good goalie. Now he's back at the top of his game. He's a great teammate. That's what he is. He's a great guy. He's funny. He's good to be around. The guys play hard for him."

Why would anyone bench there best goalie, at the start of the playoffs?

because hasek is the type of goalie to take offense to that. Chris Osgood is not.

Start Osgood, he melts down. Hasek will be crap between the pipes due to not being started first.

At least thats the popular opinion around where i'm from.

No, that's just not true. It's because there was a chance we would get the Hasek we got last playoffs. That was better than Ozzie has been this playoffs. And that's pretty bloody good. That's just my opinion.

Anyway, don't have such a short memory when it comes to Dom. It's not like we have watched him stink it up for years.

Gotta say I disagree. Osgood's performance this year has been far better than Hasek's last year. I'm not a Hasek hater, but I don't really think he played that well last year. Certainly not, at least, as well as Ozzie this year. IMHO.

Yeah, I know. I'm sure everyone else thinks that too. I was just giving my unpopular but honest opinion.

For those who simply can't stop beating the dead horse Hasek rode in on, I am calling animal control if you don't quit it.

Back on topic - which wasn't bashing Hasek, but surprise, surprise!!!!

Congrats to Ozzie! He's earned all the praise and accolades he's garnered this season, for sure.

I would think that if Franzen is out of the playoffs and Osgood carries us to the promised land, he's gotta win the Conn Smythe. He's played absolutely incredible. Now if Dats goes on a tear, he may take it, but Ozzie has been the unsung hero!

Ozzie is playing great, but Conn Smythe? Cmon.

Our D deserve as much credit as Ozzie. They allow only few scoring chances per game..knock on wood..

Mule (if hes back), Zata, Pav, Nick and Kronner are our MVPs so far.

Franzen (if healthy) tearing up the post season has been the only Wing doing it loudly!

Ozzie quietly the best goalie in the post season.

Dats quietly dominating both ends of the ice! 3rd in pts, 5th goals scored, 2nd +/-, 7th in assists

Zetterberg quietly dominating both ends of the ice! 1st in points, 2nd goals scored, 1st +/-, 5th in assists

Kronwall hitting machine leads all defensemen in assists and points

Rafalski has been a little chippier, a few open ice hits, played great D, and has been awesome with the puck

Lids, well honestly what can I say that you guys wouldn't respond with, Yeah no duh, I mean come on, this guy is a machine, even Ivan Drago thinks so!!!

The Helm, Hudler, Dmac line has played way above expectations.

I guess my point is everyone on this team right now is playing at the very least solid hockey.

Yes Franzen would be the front runner right now for any post season awards, Ozzie second (the length of his streak will have a lot to do with any accolades he receives), Dats and Z are tied for 3rd.

But this team was awesome to watch last night, I found myself awe struck at times.

My buddy who doesn't really watch the NHL was over and kept asking me why Det would cycle the puck or why they would keep pushing the puck to the D men, instead of just shooting as soon as the got the open look. I kept telling him, this is red wing hockey, patience and execution are two of the most important traits of their team, defense and offense!!

Lmao... just the fact he is 9-0 going to most likely go to the finals with better all around stats than Hasek had last season... yeah... I agree with you cdn!

Do tell me all the doubters... which of the three would you rather have in net on the way to the finals?

Ozzie is great golaie. No doubt.

But Conn Smythe material? NO way.

And why do you try to compare Hasek with Osgood? Ozzie is much better this season. No doubt.

Ozzie is 9:0 and that is awesome. But it has a LOT to do with the team in front of him. He is great for us and I hope he will keep it up. But he is not our MVP.

And btw I do not doubt him.

So did this years hasek...

I am only comparing hasek because it was brought up how hasek played better last year than ozzie is now... and i think not!

Considering the "team" as you say didn't play very well in front of hasek (assuming now that hasek was good the team was at fault) and then the team is playing BETTER for Ozzie now... I would say Ozzie spark to raise their game up along with his ability to stop pucks on a regular basis is more than enough to be the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER.

Without ozzie in net we are looking at 2-2 to nashville... with him in net we are 9-0

Hasek was brutal. Ozzie is playing great. Our team plays better with Ozzie because he is confident and our team feels it..

But Ozzie is not MVP.

Anyways, if he happens to win it, I would be happy for sure! I just think we have some players who have been more valuable so far.

but to me it seems the most Valuable player is the one that gets players to play above and beyond what they were doing as well as leading by example...

I am saying tha Ozzie has been the player to get them to raise their game to play above and beyond what they were currently playing.
