"That's a reputation call... Sutherland blew it"

From the recap...

QUOTE

DALLAS (AP)-Detroit’s goal with a guy barely in the crease, if at all, didn’t count. Dallas’ goal with a guy clearly in the crease did count.

Apparently, that’s what it takes to slow the mighty Red Wings.

That should be in someone's signature

Done. And I really like it.

If the ref felt that Homer's positioning impeded Turco's ability to attempt to save the puck, then it ws goaltender interference. as I was unable to watch more than the first period, I missed pretty much every interesting moment. However, the argument that 'Turco didn't ***** about it' doesn't prove it wasn't goaltender interference.
Thing is, Turco and damn near everyone else knew it was a goal. He didn't jump up and down like he always does. His body language, to me, shows he had no problem with it. The ref? Apparently he was dreaming about the Texas BBQ he was going to have after the game or something. Hey, I love BBQ too, but c'mon.

Ultimately, there are two ways this goal can be waved off. If Datsyuk's contact is what caused Turco to fall into his own net, even indirectly, then no goal on goaltender interference if it was intentional, and no goal on dead puck if it wasn't.
Pavel made minimal contact with Turco and was NOT the reason he carried the puck over the goal line. It's similar to a goalie making a save, and then sliding back over the goal line - no whistle? It's a goal.

..so anyone sitting there saying 'Man I hate Bettman, he ruined the game' over occasional arguable calls are really just looking for an excuse to *****, not providing any real thought or insight into problems the league may have.[/font]
I don't mention Bettman in regards to the refs. I do feel the NHL would love, actually NEEDS to see these Penguin kids in the finals holding a Cup and in feeling that way, are letting them get away with murder.

As for Bettman, he's clueless about everything hockey, and looks as bad talking about it. I think of George Bush when I see him speak. Actually Bush might look like a scholar next to Gary. I always wonder how the hell he is so bad at his job and yet expects people to appreciate what he's doing.

The only problem I have with that quote is Homer wasn't barely in the crease. He wasn't in the crease at all.

EDIT: actually two problems, the Dallas guy in the crease was a legal play. He wasn't interfering with Ozzy and the puck was there.

Still a terrible call against Homer though.

Pavel's goal?. He slides down and towards Turco. He makes minimal contact, not at all on purpose, which happens ALL THE TIME, and Turco HIMSELF goofs and slides back into his OWN NET, carrying the puck over the line. They call that off! It was a legit goal. Again - the refs deciding the outcome.

I'm not really too upset over that one. The refs blew the whistle because from their angle, Turco had covered up the puck for a stoppage. I thought he had it covered too. Replay showed he hadn't, but I'd rather the refs be a little bit quick with the whistle than swallow it, have a goal scored, and have this big fuss over whether or not there was interference. More consistent that way.

It sucks, but ...

We all know that there were some bad calls last night that were key to gaining/keeping momentum. Would the game have swung the other way? Who knows...

Wings are up 3-1 and Babcock once again gets to show why he needs to be the award winner, here's the full quote:

"The way I look at it is this: In the league, there's lots that goes on, on the ice. Sometimes a guy gets tripped and you miss it. Some times, things go wrong and you miss it. Just don't make stuff up, that's all. Kelly Sutherland's a good referee. He just blew the call. That's life."

And he always blows it off in the end and helps the team move on... he doesn't go on and on about bad calls like Trotz

And of course Turco has to show what a jackass he is again:

"Well, I try not to lose my focus on trivial things," said Stars goalie Marty Turco, who finally gave his team the quality goaltending it's been lacking up to now, stopping 34 of 35 Detroit shots for the win. But it isn't a black-and-white rule like it used to be. It's the referee's discretion. And I still feel that whether or not he was in the blue paint, I couldn't move freely to stop the puck."

I like how Oz is honest about it:

"I've never heard of a goal being disallowed because your ass was in the crease," Osgood said. "If that was against me I'd laugh. I'd say thank you."

Tippett of course with his 2 cents:

"Game1, the skate was right back in the blue," Tippett said. "Tonight it didn't look like it was right on the edge."

Like McCarty said, because that goal got called back, Dallas took the lead for the first time in the entire series.

I think the game would have been entirely different had the goal counted. I wish they had given us this one and taken away the Game 1 goal where Homer actually did interfere with Turco. We would have won that game anyway.

Oh well, I have little doubt we'll finish this Saturday, but it still make me really mad because I play exactly like Holmstrom does and I know he does a great job, only to have s*** like this happen.

Great quote from Ozzie. :rolleyes::thumbup:

It's pathetic to hear the Dallas players and Tippett defending those calls. Actually it's REALLY PATHETIC.

Refs helped them win their first game. Lucky sob's. And instead of playing Saturday, they'd be listening to their wives asking them to do chores around the house today.

You know, after further analysis of the call, I must concede that the ass was in the crease - Marty Turco was in the crease the whole game.

:D Wings in 5!

Why is a goalie interference call not reviewable? Does that mean just because a Ref had a bad burrito an hour before the game, he can call off a goal? :ranting:

It was hilarious on XM yesterday when people kept asking Bettman about that.

Bettman: "We do reviews to see if the puck was hit with a high stick, if it was kicked in, if the net was off its moorings or to see if the puck crossed the line. Goaltender interference is a judgment call and we can't do reviews on judgment calls."

Next caller: "Isn't checking to see if a puck was hit with a high stick or kicked in also a judgment call?"

Of course, Bettman dodged the hell out of that question.

I listened and thought that him dodging the questions was so funny!

aynone with xm familiar with the "pests" of the Opie and Anthony show?

anyway, they are notorious for getting through the "screeners" on talk radio shows only to trash the host of the show when they eventually get thier call taken and bring the show to a screeching halt. They usually all call in sequence so a bunch of them are queued up and act like they have a topic to discuss. When the call starts they usually start out with a few on topic sentecnces to lull the host into a false sense of security and then start yealling about whatever they want.

I would love to hear bettmen take call after call of people telling him he is worthless, and an idiot and any other type of clean insults to keep the calls from being dumped.

ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffrunkis!
