pavyaz19 1 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 I'm not happy about the octopus that was thrown on the ice in Philly tonight once the Flyers put the icing on the cake with an empty-netter. This better not become a trend in other arenas... THIS IS OUR TRADITION! Then again, maybe there was a wings fan there and threw it intending to remind the Pens and Flyers that their doom awaits. Vincanni 1 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 (edited) What makes you so sure it was a Philly fan who threw it? I guarantee it was flung by a Wings fan. Edited May 16, 2008 by Vincanni
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 I don't know, but I freaking hate Philly fans. They are such whiny *******.
tiff_luvs_homer 5 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 (edited) yeah, they need to think of their own thing... maybe they could um, throw a catfish on the ice.... no one has ever done that before... In all seriousness though, that is a Wings tradition so I don't know why someone would do it. Maybe the person doesn't know squat about hockey and just did it to be funny without realizing the meaning. Edited May 16, 2008 by tiff_luvs_homer
Vincanni 1 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 If Flyer fans want to toss something out on the ice that is more reminiscent of their fan base (the majority of them anyways) they could always toss out a soiled diaper. I think that could really catch on.

Xitium 272 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 Relax. It was likely a Wings fan that can't get tickets to the Finals.

Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 When I first saw that I got so pissed, but then you got me thinking, "what it that was a Wings fan?" That would be a hell of a way to send a message to the next team.

tazzer82 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 That's what I thought too, why an octopus in Philly? Funny if it was a Wings fan who threw it on the ice, just to send notice to both teams.
Vincanni 1 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 you must not have read my post in it's entirety. Nope, definitely missed the second part there and I'm too damn proud to change it now But yeah, as I suggested my thoughts line up with your second thought.
MabusIncarnate 5,359 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 I'd rather see a shower of plastic rats again, or if we are talking about philly fans, they should throw rubber vomit on the ice. That's about the extent of the class of fans in Philadelphia.
Lidstromrules16 7 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 it was probably Ken Holland or someone from the Wings organization scouting the competition
KronwallCRUNCH 5 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 Was probably a Wings fan, which makes it awesome.
pavyaz19 1 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 I'd think it was that before saying a Wing's fan threw it out there during a Philly/Pens game. I tend to agree the more I think about it. The chances a Wings fan is gonna get tickets to that game, risk getting thrown out, and actually throwing that thing on the ice... I'd say the odds are awfully low that a Wings fan did that. My money's on the odds... Flyers fan being and idiot.
Vincanni 1 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 For an instance let's make believe a Flyers fan is trying to rip off our tradition, does this give us the leeway to act like Philly? We could start chants of "A-hole," "BS," and "F@#* 'random players name,'" as well as flick off opposing players through the glass and blow an opposing player's complaint out of proportion and try to label them the "Whiniest *****" in the history of the NHL ala Crosby. Vincanni 1 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 to be fair, crosby does whine I agree, though Flyer fans would make you believe he is in fact the anti-christ. Also add booing everything from icing calls to not giving the Flyers a PP every time one of them is defended successfully to the list.
Gizmo 21 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 My guess is that it was a Wings fan that decided to leave an early "calling card" for the Pens!!!
Lidstromrules16 7 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 I agree, it is not as bad as Flyers fans make it out to be, in no means. Plus, IMO, Cheli is a bit of a whiner given he complains to the refs alot, but what player doesnt? Its just no other player is as popular as Crosby

I wonder if their team is embarassed of them? The atmosphere there must be like 20,000 drunken ravers.
MississippiWing 14 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 No No No. You guys got it all wrong. It was thrown by 2 people. It was thrown by Kronwall and McCarty at Crosby to remind him of the upcoming pain he will experience.
