BigWinston 15 Report post Posted May 19, 2008 I've watched the last two games, and the highlights several times.... Sure, he made some good saves, but it appears to me in a large percentage of scoring chances: 1. Wings missed the net 2. Dallas blocked a lot of shots 3. Puck hit straight at him with no screen Not trying to take anything away from the guy, but are people making a little too much out of his last couple of performances? Seems to me, the Stars defense, and more frustratingly the wings shooting, contributed more to the last two games lost than Turcos saves. I dont remember many, if any GREAT Turco saves. Anyone feeling the same about this.....
C-Dub 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2008 Anyone feeling the same about this..... Nope, I think Turco deserves much of the praise. Afterall, you could argue that the reason the Wings are shooting so bad is Turco's fault. They know if you hit it just one goal he'll get it, so you better go top corner all the time. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted May 19, 2008 I agree. As I said in another thread, he's definitely stepped up his play since the first few games, but he is not standing on his head. Credit Dallas for forcing a lot of low quality shots from the Wings. And Detroit wasn't going to the net to like they have been to get the ugly goals. Turco's been good, but I wouldn't put him as the top reason the Wings have lost the last two.
OsGOD 3 Report post Posted May 19, 2008 (edited) After being in attendance on saturday for his #1 star 38 save perfomance... I...... 100% agree with you! Turco was unmolested on all shots and barely, if at all, had to move anywhere. Holmer needs to stop trying to shoot (Horrible shots which miss the net) from the middle of the circles and park his ass in front of Turco... He needs to know where his office is... and being anywhere but in the front of the net should result in disciplinary action which may or may not lead to termination. Make him at least work for his #1 star! Edited May 19, 2008 by OsGOD
BigWinston 15 Report post Posted May 19, 2008 Yeah, I think Turco has some good positives in that game (and deserves credit)... Playing outside the crease, getting assists, and some good positioning, several good (but not fantastic) saves... But under-pressure saves with people crashing the net or screening, no. Snatching the game for Dallas, no. At least not in my (rather novice) opinion...
Must Kill 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2008 (edited) im really hoping we score a quick first goal to silence the crowd and put the over hype talk to bed Edited May 19, 2008 by Must Kill

Make him at least work for his #1 star! I was there too and I couldn't agree more. The Wings missed the net every other shot and when they did hit the net, they were terrible shots that my grandmother could stop. It's ridiculous to think Turco won game 5 for his team, because the Wings basically handed it to him. Tonight he will be exposed for the phony he is.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted May 19, 2008 I don't know how many times in Game 5 I heard Emrick say "just missed the net!" I don't know how good ol' Doc's judgment is but he seems to be pretty sharp-eyed. I think C-Dub has it right - the Wings are aiming wide on purpose hoping for a corner because Turco will otherwise make the save.
BigWinston 15 Report post Posted May 19, 2008 I dunno, it seems like a large traffic cone would have had the same saves percentage as saturday. Wouldnt have got that assist though...
BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted May 19, 2008 All goalies are over-hyped. They get too much credit and too much blame, in general. But Turco has played well these past couple of games. As others have said, when shooters are missing the net, it's often because the goalie has made some big saves and has gotten in their heads a little bit. If the wings would get some screens in front then they wouldn't have to worry about just hitting the corners and most likely missing the net.
8 Legged RedWing 367 Report post Posted May 19, 2008 i think all the hype about him could only hurt him if anything. sure it might do absolutely nothing but there is a chance it could all go to his head and he now has the pressure of carrying this team to one of the biggest playoff upsets ever. he knows this and he knows its up to him. a loooot of pressure for one guy. wings win this one on a sub-par performance by turdblo. GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted May 19, 2008 (edited) Having Franzen back or Homer being allowed within 100 feet of the net would kill all of the Turco "hype". The Red Wings need to get bodies to the net tonight. It seems as if that waved off goal made them tentative about heading to the goal in game five. That, and the fact Turco falls down or knocks the net off anytime a player wearing red and white comes near him. I'm sick of Turco and his antics. Please send him golfing tonight. Nev 1,085 Report post Posted May 19, 2008 That, and the fact Turco falls down or knocks the net off anytime a player wearing red and white comes near him. Or like his ridiculous dive in Game 5 when one of his own defencemen came within 3 feet of him Naturally, no penalty was called for diving.

miller76 463 Report post Posted May 20, 2008 Turco is over-hyped. He gives up a lot of soft goals. Like that one tonight where Drake was in his face. Granted their D broke down numerous times.
