Granato returning to the Avalanche

You think so? The year he was fired, I thought Rick Tocchet seemed to be undermining his authority. You'd routinely see the two arguing behind the bench when the Avs were struggling, and to me it looked like Granato was overmatched and didn't have control of the team. But I'll defer to the Avs fans, who I'm sure had a better feel for the situation following the team much closer than I did.

I see your point but I meant that he seemed more of a leader than Quennville. He was the one jawwing it out with Babs not Quenville. I wonder how much he was behind keeping Theodore in net during the series?

Yelling at an opposing coach isn't necessarily indicative of good leadership skills.

As crappy as JQ's track record is, he's an infinitely better head coach.

The problem is that neither is a good coach.

But Q is a genius compared to Granato - which is just a sad commentary on this hiring all together.

Obviously, this franchise has come serious rebuilding to do, but why not hire someone who can develop young players like Wolski and Stastny? Baffling.

I came across a Denver station, 104.3 FM, interviewing Granato this evening while I was stuck in traffic on the way home. He sounded rather upbeat (haha) and said the Avs ran into the Wings at a rather unfortunate time (no, you don't say?) and attributed ThreeOrFour's troubles to the flu he caught at the beginning of the series and not at all to the Wings' offense (blah blah blah).

After Granato got off the phone, the radio guys sort of ripped him a part. They commented on the media's criticism of the hire and agreed. Then, much to my surprise, one of them said something like, "Are the Avs as good as the Red Wings? Are they going to be as good as Detroit next season? No and no." He then went on to say that he doesn't see the Avs winning the Cup anytime soon with the lack of talent they have. And then... they stopped making sense. They basically said it had been awhile since the Avs had traded away their future for a big hockey superstar and that it might be a good time to do so. But then they started going on and on and on about how great Liles and Stastny are and complaining about the organization getting rid of their younger players, like Tanguay(?), and the production of the players they brought in.

Who knows, I stopped listening.
