Osgood finding his way home

Bob Wojnowski article

That was tested when the Wings, for whom he played nearly a decade, waived him.

"It was time for me to leave," Osgood said. "Some things just run their course, but I always knew I'd be back."

The loyalty Ozzie has toward this team and organization is unfathomable in this day and age. We're lucky to have a guy like that. What a perfect story, if he gets to raise the Cup and the Conn Smythe at the Joe.

OZ-ZIE! OZ-ZIE! OZ-ZIE!

Indeed BRTD.

Wes Goldstein of CBS.Sportsline.com shares a similar story in the Osgood love.

Osgood making up for lost time

DETROIT – Had everything gone according to the Detroit Red Wings' plan, Chris Osgood would be watching his team's march to another Stanley Cup from the best seat in house.

That would be at the end of the bench where backup netminders generally make their biggest contributions by helping drive merchandise sales as models for their team's latest baseball cap. Instead, Osgood has moved front and center for Detroit, emerging as arguably the biggest reason the Red Wings are only three victories from their 11th NHL title. And he's wondering what all the fuss is about.

You know what, Osgood is truely a good guy.

Hes not an egotisticle (spelling =X ) money hungry goalie like a lot of goalies and players are today.

Hes a true team leader and a great guy. Lets bring the cup back home to Hockey Town and let Osgood raise the Cons Mythe above his sholders!

Ozzie has always been my favorite goalie. He never was the best and at time gave up stupid goals, but you knew he had heart and soul and he loved playing hockey and for this team. I would have no hesitation to play the guy game 7, OT, stanley cup final.

Ozzie is the man!

Win or lose this SCF, it sure has been great to read these awesome articles that have been coming out. So many nice stories have seemed to come out these last few weeks here. I have to say though it would be amazing to see Ozzie raise the Conn Smythe trophy over his head at the conclusion of this series.

Fantastic article. A lot of the quotes from Osgood are from his press conference yesterday, if anyone wants to check it out. When he says, "I love playing here and I think that's the way I come across, as a simple guy that loves to play for the Red Wings. I love when they chant my name. It pumps me up and gives me energy. Who wouldn't?" it comes across as possibly the most sincere thing I've ever heard a professional athlete say.

Yay for Ozzie.... its been a long time coming but thankfully he is right back in the limelight about to hoist the cup

If he ever was not able to find his way home... I would gladly lead him to it!

This all gives me goosebumps.

Ozzie's been my fave since I was just a little 9 year old kid! I've supported the guy to no end since then and it's so great that FINALLY after all this time he's getting some recognition, respect, and appreciation. Seeing him hold the Cup over his head again would just be the perfect ending to such a great story not only for this season, but his career. He's great in every sense of the word.

Just to think when Osgood was waived, a majority of Wings fans were saying that he wasn't the guy who would be able to take them to another cup. Which is why when Hasek was available, he was brought forward to lead a superstar studded team. Not Osgood.

As a goalie, I have been there before as well in the rec leagues. When you play for a team for a while and have great success, all good things must come to an end eventually. When the team starts to struggle, I know a lot of teams that are fast to replace players. Especially for those who are proven winners or good players.

To Osgood's credit, he reinvented his goalie style which is more than 98% of all goalies can do, and is showing he has the skills to be the #1 in Detroit. I am glad to see him get recognition for everything he has accomplished.

I admit that I was one of those people who thought Osgood's time was gone. I wasn't calling for his head, but I was glad to see Hasek come into the fold to lead that all star lineup. It wasn't until this season when I saw him play that I can say that my faith was renewed in his abilities.

For that, I have to say, "Osgood, I apologize".

If the Wings do win the cup this year, you can bet that I will be starting a thread on this board called "I apologize". Hockey fans on forums across the board are very fickle and opinionated. A player like Osgood deserves a lot of credit, and I know there were people on this board who could stand up and admit the same thing.

hmmm... didn't know that.

Always thought he went away because they wanted to make Ozzie their number 1.

They did. That's why they wanted Vernie to take less money.

Article also lists a 7th place finish for the Isles in 2002. Wrong. They finished 5th, one point out of the Atlantic Division lead, and a 3rd place berth.
