SCOUT TO RE-UP: Swedish super scout Hakan Andersson, responsible for uncovering gems such as Zetterberg, Niklas Kronwall and Tomas Holmstrom, is in Detroit for the finals. He is in the last year of his contract, but has two-year extension waiting for him and said he'll sign it before the NHL draft, which falls June 20-21.

Just as big a deal as Zetterberg's. Andersson's scouting has been as important to the Wings as Steve Yzerman's leadership. He's so trusted, he recommended to Kenny to draft Franzen when Alex Edler was taken, and Holland made the move, sight unseen. And obviously, he was right.

This guy is amazing. I wish the newspaper or someone would do a lengthy interview with him, I really would like to know more about him. He's by far the most important man in this organization, if it weren't for him, we wouldn't have a Stanley Cup team right now. We're very lucky to have him.

although i'm a bit disappointed that it's only a 2-year extension, this is really, really great news... andersson's exceptional scouting is the biggest reason why the franchise has been able to stay competitive after all these years... great job re-signing him.

Pretty much my thoughts. As much as those can come back to bite you in a coaching position, the same cannot be said about a scout if the Owner has the money. Not much a concern with Ilitch.

I agree I don't think that the guy will lose his touch or that he will stop caring so I think that he should be offered a really long term contract. His ability to find players that no one else has is amazing.
