SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 Kopecky was one of our better forwards down the stretch. I can't believe how many people are writing him off. I'm far from down on Kopecky. I guess I wasn't clear on my post, should've specifically said when Kopecky gets healthy again, Helm will probably take a step down on the depth chart. Next year I would like to see: Zett-Dats-Homer (skill) Franzen-Filppula-Hudler (new skill) Helm-Draper-Cleary (speed and checking) Abdelkader-Mursak/Kopecky-Leino (new guys) Downey Lids-Rafalski Stewart-Kronwall Ericson-Quincey Meech

wingsownnhl43 14 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Holmstrom Filpulla - Sundin - Franzen Cleary - Draper - Samuelsson Kopecky - Helm - Maltby Hudler - McCarty Lidstrom - Rafalski Kronwall - Stuart Ericcson - Lebda Meech Osgood Howard I think everyone is hyping Hudler to much recently. He's had a good playoffs, but he isnt a top 6 forward. For his size he only has average speed. I can see us signing a veteran to a one year contract because we have the cap room for this upcoming season only and not future seasons as we have to lock up Filp, Franzen, and Z

They should stay together. Sundin will sign with Leafs, we do not need him. McCarty can be replaced easily by Abdelkader, Leino or Axelsson. Lilja, Lebda, Ericsson, Meech, Chelios..any of them might be 5-6th defenseman Pyatt and Kindl are not ready yet imho. Larsson is very good and I would not be surprised if he beats Howard for no.2 spot. My ideal line-up: Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Holmstrom Franzen - Filppula - Cleary Maltby - Draper - Samuelsson Hudler - Helm - Abdelkader Lidstrom Rafalski Kronwall Stuart Ericsson Lebda/Lilja Ozzie Larsson/Howard
SaCkaveli20 275 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 Helm is giving 110% EVERY shift. I definitely say we have him on the roster.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 With Franzen's play in the 2nd half of the season, I don't see us going after any big time free agent forwards in the summer. Franzen and Hank are going to want more money, thus there will be no Sundin or Hossa signings. Therefore, I think Helm will have a spot on next year's roster. Hopefully Downey will too, or someone who's a better, younger enforcer.
irishtemper14+25 11 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 i think he has played great, but he wouldnt be given a nod over kopecky
Opie 308 Report post Posted June 2, 2008 With the knee injury and the recovery time that it usually takes I don't see Kopecky breaking next years roster. He will have to beat an impressive Helm, who's post season play will be fresh in the minds of the decision makers. Abdelkader will have a healthy knee and Kopecky won't. Not to dig on Kopay but I don't see that knee in TC helping his cause at all.
GoalieManPat 1,007 Report post Posted June 2, 2008 I hope not. I want every young player to have to prove themselves every fall. Then after theyve done it for a couple seasons then the "earned next years roster spot" can be talked about.
high_stick69 7 Report post Posted June 2, 2008 I'm inclined to say yes. His speed and strengh on the puck are insane, not to mention his confidence. Please discuss.... I'd say Yes, because he's not Kyle Calder.....
