Torless 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 At the risk of being redundant - what an amazing year for our Detroit Red Wings! I think the biggest bane of our year so far is being the #1 seed, which apparently means everyone else gets to use the underdog card. What about making #1 seed thanks to a team comprised mostly of lower-round draft picks? What about making it to the Stanley Cup Finals with a "backup" goalie? Seriously who didn't expect Pittsburgh to make it all the way after seeing that Hossa trade? They've stacked their deck to put on a huge show - nevermind the fact that they can't keep everyone in the end. Everyone was right about a long series from the start and then changed their minds in two games - then changed back - then again - now once again it's "Trouble for Detroit"! We've shown our resilience and tanacity - we've had guys step up from the bottom to make up an awe-inspiring Stanley Cup run. This is what it's all about! Game 5 was frustrating for sure - but we saw a huge comeback in the third, so let's forget about the mistakes and move on. I think our team deserves the respect they've commanded thus far. We're gonna wrap this up in 1 or 2 games for good or bad... can we really say they haven't worked hard enough after stifling the hottest offensive team in the East? Give up some respect to Pittsburgh for a clean game 5 - some good efforts on their side. We're giving them one heck of a fight, though. What if we did lose? I think we have to be prepared for that - not taking away any confidence in our team's ability to wrap this up. Things happen. I'm just thankful we got this far, and the future is even brighter! destinwing 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 Highs-mids-lows, what else but being a Redwing Fan gives you all that emotion day in and day out. Hell I don't care if they are in season or not, a part of our minds are always on them. Were all FANatics ...we throw s***...curse...turn the channel...demand trades....and swear off watching them evr again when someone makes a foolish mistake, and this happens every game of every season. I'ts killing me right now being away from Detroit. There is no better time to be a fan and chilling downtown than when ALL the boys of Summer show up. I have followed the boys since I was seven back in the blood bath days of the Norris and was lucky enough to see #19 several times in his rookie season. In my 20's I Waited 4 years to get season tickets and no sooner did I get them did I move to Florida. You want to talk about pain, try giving up season tickets in 96. If this goes to 7, I will make the trip back to the 'D' and belly up to the bar at the Post to chew what is left of my fingernails down a bit more in hopes of a crazy celebration. The winged wheel flys on my beach every day win or lose and if the hockey gods bring us the cup my flag will still fly....if the hockey gods take the cup away well, the winged wheel without question will still be flying over the beaches here in Destin and the cursing, screaming and gutwrenching emotion will carry me thru until they drop the puck next fall. My heart is racing as I type this just like yours and Pens fans alike. We are FANatics and regardless what happens that will never change.
ShanahanMan 473 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 This will be an historic collapse if we lose, all going back to game 5 will 34 seconds left. I don't think I could ever get over it and definitely will not have a "at least we made it this far" mind set if that happened. More like the "god I don't want to get out of bed or ever see another hockey game" mind set. Please guys....WIN
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 If we lose, it will be the worst loss the Wings have had since 1942, but back then no one knew or cared. I don't want to have nightmares about this the rest of my life, and hopefully the players are looking at it similarly, since they don't want to regret it the rest of their careers, even if they've won the Cup before. Zion 93 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 Correct. The Wings cannot lose.
ehorn3 2 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 I would have to put up with all of these non-hockey people (Blues fans) all year. everyone wanted to call and let me know the Wings lost in OT. St. Louis fans are the worst, they haven't watched hockey since the lockout and once my team loses they all act as if the pens were their team all along
PaVel DaTsYuK fan13 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 I can't say it would be a good year. Knowing that we were 35 seconds away from a Stanley Cup and blowing it would haunt me for a long time. Crosby all over the place, along with Michel and the rest of the posse and it would just make me sick. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed the run, but to come this far, nothing but a cup will make this a good year.

kylee 727 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 this thread makes it sound like the Wings are mailing it in for the next two games. just thinking about the Cup being taken out and shined, and less than a minute left then to go and lose in the Finals after being up 3-1 is about enough to make me feel phyiscally uneasy. LidsFan 68 Report post Posted June 4, 2008 I have faith in Babcock and the team, I doubt that the Wings are just going to give up and let the Pens have the Cup. The question is, do the Wings want the Cup more than the Pens? I believe that they do. Game 5 was heartbreaking, but adversity only makes you stronger. So I expect the Wings to come out flying in game 6 and win the Cup. Besides I am still getting over the Ducks winning last year, I don't know if I can take the Pens winning this year. Can you imagine having to hear Crosby's named metioned even more than it is now? It would be a Crosby love fest that would never end.
Daniel Chosen 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2008 Well it's definitely not over, but if the Pens do comeback it will be like the pain Red Sox felt in 86. You don't get over it until you win another cup.

You don't get over it until you win another cup. Funny, because that's what I was thinking of this morning was that Bill Buckner play. If he fields that ball, they win the World Series, just like us with 34 seconds left. I can't think of any other loss in team sports that was as bad as that with the championship practically in your hands.
Kira 451 Report post Posted June 4, 2008 I got so angry last night, I almost put my fist through the wall. Now, I am a pretty even tempered person by nature, but that just did me in last night. 34 seconds, and you couldn't hold them off that long. All I know is, we'd better be out for bear in game 6. Leave them bleeding on the ice from legal hits. No less will do.
