Opie 308 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 Ok so tell me what is the lesser of two evils: Option A: A guy that wants to move a team, that is struggling in a poor market to stay a float and was coasting the old owner millions, and bids higher than anyone else, however he wants to move the team which is against the NHL's interest. Option B: Selling to a lesser bidder who wants to keep the team in the same struggling poor hockey market, who is a fraud. BTW you would think before selling a franchise to a guy the league would do a little dirty work, you know look into the guy as opposed to just sell to him because he will keep the team local, or worst case scenario it ends up in KC!! Another hot bed for hockey!!!
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 Seems to me that Bettman just didn't want to sell to Balsille so badly that he just sold it to the first person that came along that said he wouldn't move the team. I mean, seriously, some background checks would have easily shown that this guy was shady. Another stellar move by the league offices. Wonder if this could be another death knell for Nashville. Another hot bed for hockey!!! Ballsillies lawyer was on the Fan 590 in Toronto a few days ago and he said, point-blank, the BOG does not want him in as an owner. No matter what. Ballsillie did this to himself for not playing 'the game' when he wanted to buy the Preds. But the NHL is being very shortsighted here. This is a guy with a huge bankroll and a passion for the sport. Not only that, but Hamilton would sell a heck of a lot better than Nashville or Atlanta which would drive up revenue for everyone.

Jwo 7 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 (edited) Why can't this team just move?! I'm tired of the Red Wings having to give the Predators money to support their team since the local fans won't. New ownership is not going to matter. Edited June 9, 2008 by Jwo

Hank 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 Toronto Star reports that Boots & his financier tried to sell the 27% stake in Preds ownership to Balsillie, but the NHL blocked it. Not saying that's a lie, but the Canadian media has really been hammering this home trying to prove that Bettman hates the thought of more Canadian teams or that he's personally behind stopping Ballsillie. Sometimes they fabricate or stretch the truth. Although, in this case, I think they're probably right. Still, I don't know what Ballsillie has to gain by having his lawyer go on the Fan 590 to say point-blank that Bettman doesn't want him in there. And it's not just Bettman. The owners, as a whole, have a say in the matter too. Ballsillie blackballed himself by not playing by the rules set by the 'Old Boys Club'. It's too bad. I dont see how much longer they can keep losing money as they have. Still didnt draw 14000 (13600 or so) even with their telethon with Eklund begging people to buy tickets. Sad situation there in Music City.
