Anomalously 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2008 Interesting point is that if the 48 game season were prorated to 82 games, it goes up. 70 points in 48 is like 119 in 82. Best part is that the last 3 years (under Babcock) are the best 3 years in this span (regular season), even if you bump 70 points to 119 for the lockout (which is next to the 62-win, 131-point record breaker). Same if you go 4 years. And on.

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted June 7, 2008 Wow, we only finished under 100 points four times? Amazing. Yeah...one of those times was a 48 game season where we were first overall (95). One was an 80 game season where we were second overall (92). One was a Cup season (97), and one came after two consecutive seasons of being a top regular season team that won the Cup, and likely had some fatigue issues (99) Unbelievable run. And it's set up to continue for quite a while.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted June 7, 2008 It's actually an average of 106 points per season, not 113. Which is still ridiculous. Another way to look at it is: What percentage of possible points did the Wings get? The answer is almost 2/3, and the percentage works out to over 109 points in an 82 game season. I'm really shocked that the '01-'02 team had such a low amount of goals. Third-lowest total of all of them if you multiply the '95 season out to a full one. When considering the number of successful regular seasons and the number of cups over that span, I believe that is second only to the Canadiens dynasty of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Though they won a lot more, it is still quite a feat considering how much the leagues level of competition has evolved since those days.

Dano33 41 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 I still get amazed when i see that 38 wins got us 3rd in the west in 97, a 24 win drop from the previous year, and we went on to win the cup.
