wingsownnhl43 14 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 Does anyone else just not see him cracking our lineup? We have about 14-15 forwards coming back who helped contribute to a Stanley Cup. Not that Leino isnt talented, but its not going to be given to him. I want the lineup to look like this. Zetterberg- Datsyuk - Holmstrom Franzen - Filppula - Samuelsson/Hudler Cleary - Draper - Owen Nolan (perfect replacement for Drake) Helm - Kopecky - Maltby Downey - McCarty - Hartigan - Abdelkader <--- all great team character guys Lidstrom - Rafalski Kronwall - Stuart Ericcson - Lebda Chelios Osgood Howard
Yemack 1 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 I heard he isn't a great skater. Wasn't Grigorenko in a similar mold as Leino? great sense and skill sets but no speed Not saying he will be a bust... I don't even know how that guy even looks like, but couple signs indicate that it will be tough to crack lineup next season for him. Of course, I will be more than pleased to be proved wrong. wingfanatic4alltime 32 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 I have seen owen Nolans name a lot about people wanting him on the wings. I just dont see how this guy would help he is an injury prone 36 year old I just think and i cant believe im saying this but if the wings are going to sign a FA i would prefer Sundin over owen Nolan. wingsownnhl43 14 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 Sundin is obviously a sexy choice but we dont need any more studs. We need Dallas Drake's replacement and wingsfanatic, your post reminded me an awful lot of the posts i read after we signed Dallas. Dallas is a washed up 38 year old, blah blah blah

ManLove4Homer 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 The guy had 77 points in 55 games in the FEL. Pretty good numbers, though his coach says he's not a very fast skater. Myself, I love speed guys, but then again, Holmstrom isn't Mr. Speedy ethier. I say let him skate with the Griffins for a season and see how he does.
omnipotent_hudler 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 I've heard rumors buzzing around that Hakaan Andersson and Ken Holland played up Brunnstrom big time in order to get any potential attention off of this guy. It did seem a little odd to me how andersson was talking the guy up so much, but whatever. In general the Wings don't sign players unless they think they can make a difference. Grigs was an entirely different deal, a draft choice that the Wings knew wasn't panning out very well but they had invested enough into him that they decided to give him a chance before dropping him. Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 I don't understand why people here think there is more than skill/talent to be put in our lineup beyond the bottom 6. Provided this guy can skate reasonably well and does in fact have the ability to perform, there is no reason he shouldn't be placed in the second line or something. People are placed on the Griffons because they're just not good enough, not because they haven't been around. If the kid is good, he's playing in the lineup. 77 points in 55 games and being the leading scorer in his league must mean SOMETHING, and I think he'll be in the 4th line at least. PaVel DaTsYuK fan13 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 I don't see him cracking the line up next year. Maybe someone in management sees something in him, because they went out and signed him during the conference finals. But based off what I know, he's still a bit of a project and doubtful to be an NHLer next year.
superstarsingh 23 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 Nolan is useless. But as someone said, we will need someone to fill the void Drake will leave.
Superman54 91 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 You haven't even seen this kid play yet. Barely Abds either. lol? Sorry I forgot to mention im a big fan of him and my opinion is biased. I watched him a couple of times in the USHL. My cousin plays for Indiana Ice so i got to see the guy in action
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 Me thinks Holland/Babcock have a healthy Kopecky in mind to fill that role. A healthy Kopecky is as useless as an unhealthy one. Hartigan is also useless.
10 Minute Misconduct 104 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 Kopecky was playing well before he got injured.. but ya, Hartigan sucks. Leino isn't going to make the team. I read somewhere where his coach in Finland said he probably won't make it but he hope he does - something along those lines. We do need some grit to replace Drake tho. If Sundin doesn't do back to Toronto you can bet Holland will make him a one year offer which would be a perfect scenario.

I would rather spend that money locking up Flip and letting one of the younger players (Leino,Kopceky,Abdelkader,Ritola) play in the spot.
up2here 41 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 Sundin would do well in Detroit considering he wouldn't be the face of the franchise like he's been for the Leafs for the past 10 years. His point totals say he doesnt mine being the face of the franchise, regardless he would do well here.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 Wasn't Grigorenko in a similar mold as Leino? great sense and skill sets but no speed Pre-accident? Dude- I hope Leino's that good! Grigs won an MVP at the World Juniors pre-accident. He was a blue-chipper before his near-death experience.
B.B. 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 From the sounds of it, he clearly has a lot of skill and would seem to fit in seamlessly with our puck-possession style. But, I would consider him a long shot to make the line-up this season. He will have to adjust to life and hockey in North America, and that could take some time, and there have been questions about his skating ability. If nothing else, he is one of our top forward prospects for next season. Assuming Helm cracks the Wings line-up, then Leino and Abs would probably fight to be the first forward called up from GR in case of an injury to a couple of regulars. Swede40 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 Meech and Quincey are both out of minor-league options. I wouldn't be surprised to see one or both traded at the Entry Draft.
e_prime 1,936 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 I wouldn't be surprised to see one or both traded at the Entry Draft. Quincey can't be sent back down to GR without passing through waivers, so his value is probably higher in trade than as a Wing. Hartigan can go back to GR. So he can be traded now or later... if he's worth anything to anyone...
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 I like Leino and think he has the potential to be a solid second-liner with this team, but I have a feeling he won't make the cut out of training camp this season. Abdelkader won't be ready. Helm will probably make it. Kopecky will take Drake's spot. Mac will be back and Downey will probably be let go.
