Opie 308 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Thats what i thought but i needed clarifiicatin :S 1ST ROUND EXIT.. NO PRESIDENT TROPHY... Alright so here is how it lays out: If the wings don't make the WCF I shave my head. Wings don't win Pres trophy I shave my head. President trophy you shave your head. They make it to the second round you shave your head. Which presents the situation where the wings could win the cup and I shave my head or the wings lose in the second round and we both shave our heads. Unless you want to change the stakes, I just through that out there.

puckbags 863 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Thats what i thought but i needed clarifiicatin :S 1ST ROUND EXIT.. NO PRESIDENT TROPHY... I am pretty sure Kenny knows what he's doing, he has won 4 cups as a GM, he makes smart, tactical moves and has built this team around speed, skill, chemistry and heart without breaking the bank. AS LONG AS HE IS THE GM OF THIS TEAM WE WILL KEEP WINNING WITH THIS PHILSOPHY AND IT DOESNT INCLUDE A BUNCH OF MEATHEADS PLAYING FOR THE WINGS. It's too bad you are such a noob and didn't join about 2 years ago because your no grit mentality would have fit right in around here at that time. Any team is prone to cheapshots, its hard to avoid but I can count the amount of cheapshots on Wing's players on one hand in the last 15 years pretty much. T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 EPIC FAIL! Yes, b/c that happened alot during the 82 game regular season. I would argue last regular season was the best we had in terms of standing up for ourselves and fighting back. 99% of that was due to Drake and Downey Drake out, Mac in, Downey still in the mix Plus, all teams stick together and so do the Wings. The days of the Wings allowing other teams to shove and push and scrum them without retaliating are over. look at the amount of times Sammy or Franzen or Homer or Hudler or Cleary mix it up. They're always in there shoving, punching, face washing and giving it right back. And 99 out of 100 times a fight never happens out of those things when its the Wings. So there's no fight to get into and therefore not much need to stockpile true fighters. Wings will be fine. You're the one that might need assistance though. Prozac maybe? 12Newf 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Toughest adn Grittiest team in years? that says alot. detroit is soft and we are going to pay the price for it next year.. Swapping out a guy who brings his a-game every game for a guy who isn't physical at all and will only answer the bell against guys like McCormick yup.. thats exactly what we need.. Do yourself a favor, Dont say anything next year when Pavel, Henrik, Marian, Niklas, Raffi are laying face down on the ice, because they got cheapshotted left and right, because the other team knows there is no consequences for roughing up our key players.. i want you to just sit in your chair and say.. Well atleast we didn't waste a roster spot on an enforcer. but instead we have a 4th liner who wont produce s*** anyway. so why didnt this happen last year? we have virtually the same roster with the exception of hossa and now all of a sudden, according to you, the wings will be decimated and lucky to be alive after the season? i admit i only read the first page but i didnt see an explanation from you for how we survived last year. 2probert4 8 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 I say McCarty. If Holland had to chose, then he's chosing McCarty. They are speaking of making a D-man move prior to camp; hopefully they use that to get someone who can drop em. I dont see McCarty beating Wisniewski from Chicago, Jared Boll of Columbus, Ott from Dallas, Carcillo/Fedoruk/McGratton from Phoenix. I do think he could handle FooFoo from Nashville, unless FooFoo does his usual drop em / jump em routine .
GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 I want an enforcer in Detroit purely for entertainment value, and to retaliate against teams who run our top stars. Yes, I know enforcers don't play in the playoffs, but I don't have a problem with that. I just want someone exciting to watch in the regular season in the toughness department. Some of you anti-fighters here make me sick with your pacifist view on hockey. Everyone else has an enforcer but for some reason we shouldn't. Why? And don't come back at me with that last year's s***, because us winning or not winning the Cup has nothing to do with having an enforcer or not. I swear, our fans have become the most cream puff fans in the NHL due to all these years of finishing last in fighting majors.

GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Que the hysteria over GMR's post. I've felt this way for a long time, because it seems like many Wings fans hate fighting because they've become so accustomed to having a soft team that doesn't fight. Some people here actually believe that the Wings signing an enforcer would become detrimental to their winning, even though it worked out with Downey last year. How quickly people forget things. I am not anti fighter I just don't think it necessary, I know we disagree, but at least you and I can agree a good fight is damn fine entertainment!!!!!!!!!! jvxp 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 (edited) Due the insane level of hardness that the Hossa deal rocks, the next question (after signing the last few FAs) is who is going to protect these guys when they light the lamp over and over and over again? If not Downey or Mac ( you could let them go) how about another UFA signing. George Laraque? Detroit fans would love him. He did well in the playoffs for Pitts, plus you know he can fight. I wondering what his asking price is? Also Pitts would be pissed that we took another one of there players! Edited July 2, 2008 by jvxp

Some people here actually believe that the Wings signing an enforcer would become detrimental to their winning, even though it worked out with Downey last year. How quickly people forget things. i love fighting and i believe that every team needs an enforcer. while i would love to get a guy like bob probert or mccarty in his prime (i have milan lucic in my mind no matter how ridiculously unlikely that would be) who can play every game and beat the hell out of nearly anyone around, these guys are few and far between. what i mean is most of todays enforcers are just boxers who can skate and these guys just dont interest me. i want a guy who can drop them when he needs to but can actually play a two way game. i think we need to resign downey because he did a great job last year and then maybe a middleweight who can drop the gloves 3-4 times a year. Guest Dump-N-Thump Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Kirk Maltby - 6goals 4assists in 61 games. Thomas Kopecky - 5goals 7assists in 77games Georges Laraque - 4 goals 9assists in 71 games. Arron Asham - 6goals 4assist in 77 games Zack Stortini - 3goals 9assists in 66 games Andre Roy - 4goals 3assists in 63 games. ----- Now tell me.. These are your run of the mill fighters/enforcers/toughguys.. but yet they seem to be able to put up points. some even more points then our beloved Kopecky and Maltby. So enforcers being 1 trick ponies? good joke..
Rikadyn 16 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 I think Dats is gonna try his hand at being the enforcer this season, surely he must be tired of winning the Lady Byng and having to give a speach.
Bluedevils_13 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 We dont have Maltby for his scoring. I don't know how many of those enforces could play the PK. Kopecky is defiantly disposable though, IMO. Yea he was good late in the season, but I just don't see him doing much that an Abdelkader or Helm can't already be able to do anyways. I really don't see anythign wrong with a Laraque signing, but the fact of the matter is our "enforcer" next season will be McCarty, Downey, or no one. THat's a great post, but most people here on LGW would ignore all those stats and stick to their view that having an enforcer is a waste of a roster spot. They're just adamant in their views without budging, even though stats like that disprove their point.

About the PK situation, We've rotated alot of people on the PK, our team is built on reliable 2way play.. if Maltbys PK skills is the only reason he has a job, something is wrong.. I agree with Kopecky, i thought he was coming along very well later in the season, I think this is a make or break year for him, unless Draper or Maltby hang them up.. Justin/Darren will end up in GR to begin the season i think.. I hope your wrong about the enforcer situation :*(
