Holland: Wings will wait until Sept. for D trade

Did anybody catch what he said about Flip, if anything?

Thanks.

Quote from Kenny's interview for Red Wings T.V.

"I've got some cap space now, you know, I'm talking short term, long term with Val Filppula, you know, prepared to go either way. And obviously long term higher cap number, short term lower cap number, so there's some things that need to be done (referring to free agent signings) but eh, as far as any major signing news we're done for the summer."

Hope that helps

I knew they would probably wait until camp. It just makes sense. My guess is it will be between Meech and Quincey and maybe Lebda but I doubt it. But let them compete for it. I think Quincey has more upside than Meech but it's hard to really tell when they barely play. It's a nice problem to have.

I would be soooooooo pissed if we got rid of Ericsson and Quincey!! I think they are our Defensemen of the future!! Trading either one will come back to haunt us!!! Meech could easily become a forward with somw work, and I think Lebda would be the odd man out! Lebda played great when all of our D went down last year. and I think he played good in the playoffs, so I think we could actually get some good draft picks for him!!

Why would Ericsson be gone? They can send him to the minors without putting him on waivers. Meech could become a forward but I don't know if they will wait around and have him be the 13th forward this year and thats the only way you keep Quincey and him, unless Lebda gets traded.

i'd take lebda over Meech anyday of the week ... both standerd players but lebda has the speed ... anyway u put it Lebda is worth more than meech .. but in saying that they are only worth picks not players... I'm putting my money on Quincey throwing some weight around and droppin the gloves to impress the Redwings Brass.. Thatll put him into contention for the 6th spot over Lebda im hoping ..

its goin to be ..

Lids - Raffi

Kronner - Stuey

its goin to be

Lilja - Lebda

Quincey/Chelios

Out of our 'bottom dmen' I want Quincy to stay. Meech, Lebda and Lilja could all go (not that any of them are bad).

But I think Quincy can be a very good 5th dman in this league. He's smart, physical has good skating and can handle the puck well enough for our system.

I'd also love to see what Ericsson can do as well.

I totally agree, I would like to see Quincy stay as well...

Fun Sidenote: Hank, did you hear that Anchorman 2 is in the works?

Quincey is a heart and soul type guy. and thats a great thing to have imo.. If the crap hits the fan he will be there to stand up for his mates.. on top of that he isn't a bum with the puck like Lilja.. and is more physical then Lilja, just not as put together.

Lebda,Meech are good pucking moving d-men i wont deny that they make a great first pass and can start the rush. But you know what? so can Quincey.. Im not writing off Lebda, because he really played well in the SCF.. but but. i think Quincey can be better then Lebda if he gets some time with us.

Ericsson will stay in Grand Rapids for one last year, and Lebda will be traded. Meech and Quincey have more value than Lebda, and Holland said he'll carry 8 defensemen this year.
Don't be so sure. Babcock really likes Ericsson and he is therefor likely to find him a spot much like he did with Filppula before. I can see Lilja being shipped out at deadline if Ericsson plays well. I hope Quincey will stick around, because he brings more character into the lineup. Chelios should retire and Lebda and Meech can both be sacrificed if needed.

What team is projected to have a top 1st pick next year and needs D? - See where I am going with this...
Not really, maybe I have missed something? The only Detroit defensemen worth a 1st pick is Lidstrom, Kronwall and Rafalski...

He may like him but it will be hard to keep him up here and not lose some of the other young guys. Holland said they will carry 8 D and 13 forwards so Lids, Rafalski, Kronner, Stuart, Lilja and Chelios, he's not retiring, are sure things so that leaves 2 spots for Meech, Lebda, Quincey and Ericsson. You would have to trade or waive 2 of those 4 which I don't think they want to do. And Ericsson wouldn't play much being anywhere from #6-8, I would rather him be in GR and play good minutes and trade, or waive if you have to, Meech or Lebda. Even though I think Quincey might be out for some reason.

I don't think Babcock will think twice about benching Lilja, Meech, Lebda or Chelios if that's what it takes to play Ericsson. At least short term. Either Meech or Lebda is as good as gone.
