Red Wings To Play Blackhawks In Winter Classic

While I am pleased to see the Wings play the outdoor game this year, I am not the happiest with the location. You would think that the NHL would have worked hard to make the game at a place where it has the potential to break the record. It has been 7 years since the Cold War when Michigan and Michigan State. I was there and it was quite a momentous occasion. Why not try to break the record by offering it at The Big House?

The only downside to that is you can't buy beer at The Big House. Maybe thats why they don't try to play it there.

I'm going to be taking a train from Ann arbor to Chicago to see the game. I will not miss it!

Hmm, a LGW train trip from AA to Chitown? Could be fun!

edit - wait, they don't serve alcohol on them trains do they? hmmm

Step 1) You wait for the schedule to be announced.

Step 2) You wait until they give an "ON SALE" date.

Step 3) You refresh TicketBastard.com about 200 times in 30 seconds at 10am on a Saturday b/c these things are gonna sell out FAST.

See steps 1 and 2. 3 is optional if you live close enough to a box office.

I'm terrified of this. I had uber-trouble getting tickets to Game 5 of the SCF's this year and I know it'll be almost as difficult to get tickets to this game. Seeing as that Shelly and I live only a little more than three hours from Chicago, I will definitely be at this game. I always try to make Red Wings games in Chicago, but the Winter Classic is icing on the cake.

Just wondering, is this a "real" game and 2pts to the winner and all? or a "just for fun" game?

The unfortunate thing about this is that it probably means the New Year's Eve game is gone.

I was at it this year and there really wasn't anything special about the new years eve game.

New Years Eve game < Winter Classic

Sorry won't believe it's a done deal until the NHL releases it. Highly doubt that Mikey (who owns his own baseball stadium) would be on board this quickly. As the paper stated, they've talked to the CHicago people, however no mention of the wings.

One thing about being a Canadian Citizen, either way you slice it I have exams at the end of that month so wherever it is, if not in a 2 hour radius is too damn far

What's the deal with these outdoor games following Ty Conklin around?

He played the first one in Edmonton and then last winter with the Pens. Ironically, Conklin was the back-up goaltender for both teams, but due to injury to the starters, he played in both outdoor games. Watch out Osgood!

Ty loves his outdoor games.

has this been 100% confirmed yet? or still up in the air?

also, can the wings opt out of playing if they still want to play on 12/31?

97.1 was saying that ken holland received 2 different schedules, one with a new years day winter classic @ Wrigley and one with a new years eve game.....this makes me think the NHL has a backup if the wings decline..
