seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted July 6, 2008 I'll bet he sticks with 93. He did OK with that number, especially at the end of the year and playoffs.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted July 6, 2008 I hope not. 39 only fits Dom to me.
Dano33 41 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 I hope he keeps 93, i sorta like the numbers in the 90's. Homer stuck with 96 after he gave up 15 to Dmitri Mironov.
Superman54 91 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 Im sure he will stick with 93, its a sweeter # anyways
Guest Dump-N-Thump Report post Posted July 7, 2008 I hope not.. but i wouldn't care if he did.
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 Ofcourse the # isn't retired, but I don't think anyone from the currents squad should just take it now that he's gone. I'd be dissapointed if Franzen did.
Booster313 138 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 I think...and hope that he will stick with 93...39 belongs to Dom...or another goalie someday.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 The whole point of guys keeping their numbers is that they are associated with that number. It's "their" number. Mule has made his name (and nickname) with the number 93. 39 may have been his old number, but after this season, 93 is truely "his number".
norrisnick 1 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 Ofcourse the # isn't retired, but I don't think anyone from the currents squad should just take it now that he's gone. I'd be dissapointed if Franzen did. Shanny spent close to 10 years in Detroit and they gave his number to Meech. 39 won't be held back from anyone. That said, I think Franzen should stick with 93. Better number for a forward. Reilly 24 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 Clearly based on superstition, I think he'll continue to wear 93. Spezza didn't go back to 39 when Dom left Ottawa.
tiff_luvs_homer 5 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 I hope not, especially since my husband just bought a new Franzen jersey...
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 (edited) Shanny spent close to 10 years in Detroit and they gave his number to Meech. 39 won't be held back from anyone. That said, I think Franzen should stick with 93. Better number for a forward. That's different. Meech never played with Shanny, and the year after he left he only played 4 games and afer that (this year) he only played 32. AND shanny didn't retire. Franzen has played a lot with Hasek. And I'm not saying wearing 39 should be disallowed officially, I just personally don't think franzen should switch. Franzen should show respect for the best goalie to ever play, I think. I don't think that the Red Wings would keep Mule from taking back #39 in any official capacity, but I think he will keep #93 since he established himself with that # and out of respect for Dom. Zion 93 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 This is actually a really good question. I've got a 93 Franzen t-shirt (not the cool ones I got of Dats and Lids in Detroit that are just red t-shirts with the Wings logo on front with the name and number on back), and would hate to see the change for the same reasons some of you mentioned above. I have to get the Mule shirt, but would definitely suggest you put a Stanley Cup in the mule bag. I would have loved to see Mule win the Conn Smythe, so you could put that in the other saddlebag. Sweet!!!! $$$
Reilly 24 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 Franzen should show respect for the best goalie to ever play, I think. ...it's just a number. A number that doesn't belong to anyone in Detroit. Might be a different situation if Franzen was playing in Buffalo.
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 It would really suck to do all of those t-shirt logos again... so I'd put in a vote for "stay with 93".
grsbmd 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 I don't think we'll see anyone wear #39 soon, partly out of respect for Hasek and partly because it is an obscure number, but I think we'll definitely see someone wear it again someday.
