Do We Want Chelios Back?

He did not play in the Stanley Cup Finals (a healthy scratch after a "leg injury"), but played throughout the playoffs. I've said it before: most of you forget about the game before last, so I would fully expect you to forget previous playoff series. Are you even able to name our opponents? I'll let you Google this one. As for me, I watched every game this season, including attending 3 games (and one open practice), so I know how well (and not-so-well) Chelios was this year. Obviously, you don't... or you'd know how well he was on the top PK pairing (how many times must I repeat this?) and on the 3rd even strength pairing. Oh, and learn to spell.

I don't think there's any way you can take away from his PK work. One thing you don't lose with age is your ability to read the ice. Cheli sees things extremely well with his experience, and he's great at making that quick pass from down low that allows Lids to clear, where other guys frequently try to clear from in deep, which almost always gets picked off at the line. I'd even call him our 2nd best D on the PK, ahead of Rafalski, Kronwall and Lilja. To me, he's worth keeping on the roster as your #6/#7 for that skill alone. Yeah it's extremely specialized, but it's not like we're asking him to play 30 a game here.

Perhaps the wings see him as a good role model (exemplifing work ethic, intangibles) for all the other players, especially the young guys.

I'd be upset if they re-sign Cheli. He's just too old. I think he's fine for the first 20 seconds of a shift but then after that he just tires out and makes mistakes. I think with our cap situation, we need to let him go to make room for the young guys like Quincy, Meech, and Eriksson.

Obviously, you are paraphrasing. First off, Chelios is more effective on the ice than Ericsson, otherwise, Holland and Babcock would not have him on the ice.

2ndly, would you like to see 2 inexperienced d men teamed up together, so they can both make mistakes at the same time over and over again for a few years until they start to figure it out? Or would you work in a new guy with an effective, 3 time Norris trophy winner, who has multiple Stanley Cups, and more playoff games than just about everyone else in the world?

One in the hand is worth two in the bush. Chelios is a known entity (one in the hand) and still more effective than Ericsson and Quincey ( the two still in the bush).

It has already been stated that Chelios is wanted as a number 8 defenseman. That means someone has to go. Chelios is one in the hand, I'll give you that. But I have no problem with Meech and Quincy as a number 5-6 pairing. I don't see the point in losing one of them for nothing to keep Chelios as a number 8.

Yes, we need him. Maintain the veteran balance.

i agree, he is an important leader on the team aand is a great mentor for the younger guys, but when is enough enough. I think he is getting up their but he is still playing just fine and i think theirs no problems no. But next year you never know, im still waiting for him to play his age
