miller76 463 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/story/2008...mapleleafs.html Wondering how much they were really depending on getting this guy. 'At present, the top six probably consists of Tomas Kaberle, Bryan McCabe, Pavel Kubina, Jeff Finger, Ian White and Carlo Colaiacovo, with Staffan Kronwall, Stralman and perhaps prospect Luke Schenn providing depth.' - cbc.ca Its going to be another long season for Toronto fans. grsbmd 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 That really seems like a dumb rule. There should be some kind of age cutoff. Now the leafs are going to have to bring up Schenn, which is really going to mess his development.
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted July 10, 2008 Looking at the image shown on the TSN article...: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=242960&...os=secStory_nhl .. I can't help but hope the NHL never goes to those uglyfied ad-laden jersies. Looks like friggen Coke giving a bodycheck to Visa.

Back to the topic, I understand the intention of the rule, but this guy has been playing pro for a few years. Although it's his first stint in the NHL, he should be allowed to have a bit better contract than the entry level one. IMO, at least...

MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 NHLPA is going to fight for him, he'll still get signed one way or another. He's only being depended on as a #6/7 kind of guy.
ashenhigh 9 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 You know its actually kinda sad... One would think Kaberle, McCabe and Kubina would be a really solid start to a Defense.

betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 Rules are rules after all.....otherwise think of the bidding war that would have erupted over Brunnstrom. It's probably smart. Look at the outrageous cash being paid for Japanese stars to play MLB. NHL doesn't want to go down that road.

Guest mindfly Report post Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) Get over it, never seen a bigger hype for a swedish player than Brunnström, he really isn't that good... he's probably gonna end up on their 4th line and play 5minutes per game or something....But the media in U.S was like OMG DETROIT LOST BRUNNSTROM TO DALLAS.. I'm happy we didn't get him cause he is "lazy and he sucks™" Edited July 10, 2008 by mindfly
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 You really think teams would've paid that much for Fabian Brunnstrom? Not like, Dice-K money. But you notice that most of the teams offering him were offering the max....that means the bidding would certainly have gone higher if allowed.

And the sad part is the league is already talking about phasing it in gradually starting with the goalies. Dom even said he would have no problem with it. Ugh. GoalieManPat 1,007 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 You really think teams would've paid that much for Fabian Brunnstrom? Did you think anyone would pay Finger what he is getting paid? Almost certainly someone would have broken the bank on Brunnstrom

The Bosox had to pay $50M just to be able to TALK to Dice-K, not just sign him.
