egroen 384 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 Hossa - Flipper - Franzen. Only questionable player would be Flipper, Thats because he hasn't produced on a large scale with guys like Cleary and Sammy. Being on a line with Hossa being who he is, and Franzen coming into his own last year. I see no reason to not atleast give it a try to keep ZDH together, You gotta remember, Zette was in the scoring league for along time during the season. Its obvious that the ZDH line produces.. I actually think Hudler would be a better fit on that line than Filppula. Franzen and Hossa are more than enough defensively on that line, but Hudler is far and away a better passer and goal scorer than Filppula. You go from a great two-way line to a good two-way line but one that is explosive offensively.
up2here 41 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 (edited) I think you start the year like this: Datsyuk Zetterberg Holmstrom Franzen Filppula Hossa Hudler Draper Cleary McCarty Helm Samuelsson Give Flip a chance to be on that second line and it it doesnt work you seperate Hank and Pavel. You could put Kopecky/Maltby in on the 4th line but I think Helm proved himself in the playoffs. Edited July 17, 2008 by UP2HERE
Turretin 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 Another thing about the whole Flip or D or Z centering issue: Hossa came here because he wants to win a cup and he wants to play a style of hockey that he will love. Hossa is looking for a good time. I am sure that he will feel much more satisfied and happy if he is taking passes from someone he knows is a tope center in the league instead of mentoring a young center. Hossa is ready to have his fun, not to be a mentor. Not saying I like it, but I'm guessing the lines will start out: Hossa - Datsyuk - Holmstrom Franzen - Zetterberg - Samuelsson Cleary - Filpulla - Hudler Helm - Draper - Maltby
Guest Dump-N-Thump Report post Posted July 17, 2008 Helm/Kopecky I'd rather see Helm get another year or half a year in GR. He could use the Top Playing time.. With Kopecky i'd give him until the trade deadline. If he isn't where we want him to be.. Then adios..

And as a heads up, he blew out his knee in the final game last year. He's gonna look like s*** this year. The year after he should be fine though.

Now you have the rep around here to pull those off, but are you basing that off of anything more than just that they are countrymen?

Actually, in NN's defense I have heard those two are extremelly close friends.

Well-documented that Tomas talked up the Wings.

Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted July 17, 2008 Ok, that I could get on board with. If these are the lines you're thinking, I have no problem with running with it: Hossa - Datsyuk - Holmstrom Franzen - Zetterberg - Cleary Hudler - Filppula - Samuelsson Kopeky - Draper - Maltby Downey/Mac (for play against the rough teams) That being said, I would assume you would interchange your third and fourth line ice-times based on the opposition and home/away games. Hmmm I like those lines a lot, but I'd also like to See Hudler get some real time with some real linemates. Maybe switch Cleary for Hudler? Idk Also how do you guys think our powerplay will look with that lineup? I Doubt Z will be on the second powerplay unit. Maybe the orginal ZDH Raffi-Lidstrom Than the best second unit in the leauge with Franzen-Hudler-Hossa Kronwall-Sammy/Stuart?

I don't see Babs splitting up the first PP unit to *start* the season either. The nice thing about adding Marian to the mix is now they have options if the first unit runs into a dry spell. However, I love the idea of keeping the ZDHLR 1st PP unit to start the season, and having a second unit of Hudler-Franzen-Hossa with Kronwall and Sammy on the back end. I still don't like the idea of Stuart being on the second unit due to the fact that he's a LH'ed shot (compared to Sammy being RH'ed) and Mikeal is very defensively responsible (especially on the PP point) if the play gets broken up. I agree with most everything you say, but dont you think its funny that you think Sammy is more responsible than an actual defensemen?
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 I agree with most everything you say, but dont you think its funny that you think Sammy is more responsible than an actual defensemen? I never said that. My exact wording was "....and Mikeal is very defensively responsible (especially on the PP point) if the play gets broken up." Just because I stated that Sammy is very defensively responsible doesn't mean I was insinuating that he is moreso than Stuart. That being said, Sammy's defensive play is beyond solid and something that most members of this site either don't admit or just don't understand the game enough to notice.
