I was checking out the wiki page for this song (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hey_Man,_Nice_Shot), and it mentions something about the Wings I've never heard, and I'm curious as to if anyone has heard of it and the origins of this:

It is believed among Detroit Red Wings fans that hearing this song during the NHL Playoffs will curse the team, and have petitioned the Detroit radio and television stations to not play it.

I know it's the song on the most popular youtube video of the '97 brawl (actually where I heard the song).. but that's about it. Any ideas?

Not sure how this all fits in, but I highly doubt songs or music played kills the vibe of the playoffs or "jinxes" a team. Nothing to worry about or make a fuss over.

I remember reading that just after listening to the song during the SCF. Apparently that curse has been broken, or never worked in the first place.

Well I can say that the curse doesn't work cuz i watched the youtube video of the 97 brawl with Colorado before every game against the Avs. We ended up sweeping them and we also won the cup. So I guess that curse is a bunch of BS.

Looks like that remark has been edited out. The article was flagged because the text does not cite any sources, so anything about a local ban on the song or a Detroit jinx doesn't have much credibility.

I like Wikipedia as a quick and dirty reference on various topics. A lot of times, I will hear a hot topic in the news for a couple of weeks and wonder how the whole thing started, and it's helpful for the background info, but it's open editing leaves it vulnerable to misinformation and abuse.

The 1st time I heard the edited version linked to the Wings was in '95 after the Wings beat the Hawks on Kozlov's OT series clincher to make the finals. I know this for a fast as I was on my way home from a class and I only took classes from Sept 94 - Jul 95 (or whatever 3 semesters spans).
