Chicago County Comissioner Already Trying to Mix It Up

And by class, I mean complete lack of.

When (Cook County Commissioner) Quigley put together an official resolution Tuesday celebrating the Hawks' outdoor showdown against the Red Wings on New Year's Day at Wrigley Field, he included a secret message to the reigning Stanley Cup champions and their fans.

He used red capital letters in the last line of his resolution to spell out a favorite chant he learned while growing up a Hawks fan ''in the second balcony in Chicago Stadium.'' The letters spelled out, "DETROIT SUCKS."

suck so bad they won a cup.

while Chicago rules so hard they've been playoff-less since when?

on a sidenote, imagine how annoying these types are going to get when Chicago quickly turn into a worhtwhile franchise again?

That's hilarious! You guys expect him to to do something different? You guys post as if everybody in the world should cheer for the Wings.

Everyone should. Duh. This board has clearly established that.

Guest Dump-N-Thump

He's trying to stir the pot, He knows that he doesn't want a boring game, so he calls detroit some names in hopes it ruffles some feathers.. and s*** hits the fan and bam bam bam we got ourselves an ole school hockey game.

Exactly. Thats what it is.

How about something like "Go Chicago" or "Lets go Hawks"? But "Detroit Sucks"? You're a county comish and you're acting like an 8 year old? Congrats. Even Kwame would come up with something more creative than that.

Also, I could say that fans of the Blackhawks and Maple Leafs are not my favourite sports fans, but talking s*** in a official government document is just lame.

And anyways, someone should tell him the good thing about being a Red Wings fan is that you get to go to Championship parades in Detroit. Going to Cheli's Chili afterwards is fun too.

Yeah I read this, and I actually live in this county (Park Ridge) lol

Glad to know who my elected officials are and who I won't be voting for next elections.

You should inform your County Commisioner that you won't be voting for him because of his lack of class! Hey, you may get a reduction on Property Taxes. ( you just never know! )

People you are looking at this all wrong. This is great for the teams. This is how we get a good rivalry going. I can't count how many times i have seen Colorado sucks here in Detroit. Its time to move back to the Wings Hawks hate.

Exactly what I was going for here. It's not that he's supporting the Hawks and trying to get the fanbase all riled up. I have no problem with that. It's the completely juvenile statement and the total lack of creativity.

It's the difference between me saying "DEVILS SUCK!!!" and "I don't think the Devils will do particularly well this year due to their lack of offense, in addition to their loss of defensive prowess over the years, despite them being a defensively-minded team."

One makes me look like I'm on the playground. The other makes me look like I actually received some sort of education past 8th grade.

Thanks for your comment. I agree, anybody who uses the word "sucks" is an unlettered, inexpressive, immature 8 year old, which, sadly, describes a number of posters on this site!

Lets just get a giant slingshot to launch the octopi onto the ice... :shifty:

I think this is great though, getting some blood boiling for this game will be great. Chicago is hopefully back to a spot where it will be fun to play them come Jan 1.

loved the end of that article:

"Quigley went on to say that 'the good thing about being a Blackhawks fan is you don't have to live in Detroit.' Funny, we always thought it was ticket availability."

TBH, I think its kind of funny. Chicago knows their team hasn't been in the same ballpark as Detroit for the last decade, but this is a long-standing tradition for Chicago. It doesn't mean the Red Wings are a bad team, it just means "Detroit Sucks". The Blackhawks could be 0-82 and the Wings 82-0 and to them, "Detroit Still Sucks".

It's all in good-natured ribbing.
