#19=Legend 29 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 They had a segment on Best Damn Sports Show, and it was talking about arrogant fans at sporting events that have no idea what they are talking about. He went on to say that most fans that came to watch back in the day, actually knew what they were talking about. And he balmed it on how high ticket prices are. that most of the real fans cant afford the tickets now. I see this at The Joe every time i go to a game. I sit near people who talk on phones during games. And people i sit by who have absolutely NO idea about what they are talking about. And I sit there and want to correct them LOL. But who else sees this crap when they go to games?
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 And he balmed it on how high ticket prices are. that most of the real fans cant afford the tickets now. The implication being..."real" hockey fans tend not to enjoy very comfortable financial situations? hmm
irishtemper14+25 11 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 i see it a lot, its annoying but i dont say anything cuz theyre the only ones cheering in the lower bowl at the joe, all the assholes that show up late and play on their iphones
#19=Legend 29 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 ehh maybe i worded that wrong. but im not really saying that at all, as my family is financially comfortable, or whatever. it just seems that most of the people i see at games arent trying to watch the game. some i see are trying to impress a client or girlfriend, or is just so spoiled about it that they dont even get into the game. which actually plays part to the joe being so quiet. redmathew 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 Going to a canucks game is a joke, tickets are one of the highest in the league and only the rich can afford season tix, and 90% of everyone goin to the games has no idea wuts goin on and leave mid way the 3rd so they don't get stuck in traffic, regardless of the score. While there are affluent fans, I think there's some truth to what you say. Part of the latest stadium/arena building craze the last decade has been to add more luxury suites. As a result it attracts people who are more interested in entertaining clients and writing it off, than getting into the game. Some of that mindset I think, carries over into the regular ticketed sections.

I'll usually make small talk at sporting events with people I go to games to or somebody I might sit next to that I never met, but I'll never ramble on and on and on or sound like I know everything. Because honestly, I know very little () and I go to sporting events to watch the game. I don't go to be a cheerleader, start crap, impress clients, or sound like a know it all. Just put a beer in my hand for an hour or two and let me watch the game in peace and I'm happy.
Slave 31 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 going to oiler games and flames games with a wings jersey on is pretty cool, not ballsy enough to try it during a playoff run though, 1 guy i was talking to said he was ta game 6 when the wings knocked out the flames a couple years ago and he was escotred to his vehicle by police, not sure it was as bad i picture it in my head but knowing calgary it probably was My brother lived in calgary and when they went to the finals everyone jumped on the bandwagon he said 90% of jerseys were either iginla or kipper, very few classic jerseys or fans who could actually name the 2nd line of the team or the backup goalie. but hey i am sure it is like that everywhere when a team is doing good

And how they havent watched a hockey game since Jagr was a red wing Last one, He was a nashville fan, But he's the polar opposite of what we're tlkaing about, He was like man i had to go to the bathroom, istood in the line, then when i went in, they had these urinals or something, i aint use no uruinal.. i use a hole in the ground, and i try to leve and some stewpid wings fan says to me to wash my hands, I say i aint wash my hands, i spit in dem and clean em l8er. none of the last one happend, I just had some really obnoxious people behind me during the nashville game 2 this playoffs
grsbmd 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 Somehow, every time I go to Yost I end up next to the same loud talking guy who has no idea what he's talking about. He spends the whole game using his "Cellphone loud talking voice" to tell the guy right next to him every stupid thing (frequently pointless boring stories) that pops into his head. He also makes it a point to announce that he doesn't understand the rules of hockey and just goes for the atmosphere. But then still manages to complain about correct calls, like hand passes in the defensive zone and no-touch icing. But one night an LSSU fan started a fight with him, which was pretty entertaining. I'm not one for calling people out at games either but those girls would have got it from me. If you don't want to be there then don't ***** about it, just leave. They only times I get riled up are Hawks v Wings games, but the United Center is just an onslaught of people who don't know what the hell they are talking about. Nah, if anyone, I was calling at the dude on the show who apparently was making that argument. I can appreciate the point, and it's not totally without merit. But all in all, I say, "No big deal" -- especially if those dudes in suites, as annoying as they may be, are helping to keep organizations afloat. Annoying people in crowded places are pretty much unavoidable, unfortunately.

As soon as I stepped into the SportChek zone the entire place started to boo. Wings scored first that game so of course I jump up and go crazy and am immediately pelted with garbage and beer (and several threatening remarks). When the Flames took the lead a guy beside me literally started screaming in my face to the point that the ushers had to step in (not that I asked them to as I just sat there). It has not been nearly as bad at subsequent games, and in 2007 Mr. Franzen provided me with sufficient revenge. Nothing was more satisfying than going crazy with sheer joy while the rest of the building went deathly quiet. And yeah Flames fans are brutal, made more so by their complete abandoning of the team during their playoff dry spell only to come crawling back when they got decent again. edicius 3,269 Report post Posted August 16, 2008 There used to be a guy at my job who had Devils season tickets (yes, there ARE Devils season ticket holders!) and he'd usually give me and my then-significant-other a couple tickets for a few games during the season. If one of them was a Wings game, he gave me those by default and let me choose the other ones. 2nd row ice, maybe 20 feet from the penalty boxes. And you better believe I made some noise down there. Some other people did too. And then there were the people who got mad when you made noise because they were busy making some business deal on their phone. They got mad. For making noise. AT A HOCKEY GAME. And I overheard enough stupid people at those games too. I think this was in 2002 or so, I overheard some Devils fans claiming that the Devils were SOOOOO much better than the Wings because they had "won more Cups than the Red Wings ever did". Group of "fans" that seemed to think the NHL started in '83, or whenever they started following the Devils. Speaking of that, I had a conversation with a guy who absolutely refused to believe that the Devils franchise wasn't always in Jersey and used to be the Colorado Rockies. One of his responses? "That's a baseball team, idiot..."
