Rivalred 630 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 "I don't know Mats Sundin's travel plans, but we're not signing Mats Sundin," Holland told the newspaper Wednesday. Why is this even in the article? It makes absolutely no sense as floor Mats wants MONEY and the Wings do not have it.
Opie 308 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 Why is this even in the article? It makes absolutely no sense as floor Mats wants MONEY and the Wings do not have it. Because most reporters know very little about what they are covering and since Mats is a big name free agent they ask the question. That is pretty much the only reason! Torless 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 You know - my gut tells me that the reason Sundin is waiting so long to decide is that he wanted to go Detroit but didn't act soon enough. Supposedly he also wanted a cup-contending team, Detroit is close to Toronto, a lot of Swedish teammates... Everything about Sundin going to Detroit made sense, so that's why people thought Detroit could be the dark horse even after the 'nucks offered 10mil. Too bad, so sad Sundin - if you would have jumped on for cheap at the start you could be raising the cup next summer. Now the best you can hope for is a fat paycheck... meanwhile Hossa has put his money where his mouth is - and frankly we're better off this way.
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 Exactly. I honestly believe the reason Sundin hasn't "decided" is because he already had - but he took too long and Hossa got in while the gettin' was good. His best bet for a Cup on a team that can afford him is probably the Habs. He goes elsewhere, he's just getting a paycheck and chances are, he won't even sniff the postseason. Kira 451 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 A friend tried to tell me that Sundin had signed with the Rangers. If he did, I haven't seen hide nor hair of it online, and they can't afford that guy anyway. Mats, either stay in Toronto, or hang them up.

StevieY9802 6 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 Sundin is not coming here. Even waiting till the deadline he would still have to sing for barely anything. Not happening people sorry. I doubt the Wings will be needing any offense at the deadline either. As for Sundin I have a feeling he's going to do exactly what he said he wouldn't and be a rental player. He said he didn't want to be a rental last season and that you should be on a team the whole year and go to war together, or something like that. So joining a team in like January would be what Mats? If he comes back any later than Oct 9th I will lose respect for him totally, which I don't have much left for him now either. Wings signed the right guy in Hossa. auxlepli 17 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 It's fairly obvious that Sundin isn't in the Wings' plan, especially now. Marshal, as in Draper's case, should be with only one "l."
LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 ...Kenny should have re-thought his statement and added, "Not unless Mats will sign for $250,000." Then we could sign Mac to the 2-way, sign Chelly to whatever he is gonna sign (still don't know how he is gonna fit Mac, Quinc and Chelly under, but, eh! Who cares!) for. Sign Quincey, trade whomever your gonna trade, then press play! ...yeah, if Mats would take 250 or less, sure Kenny would sign him up! How much more money does Mats need? He's already a millionaire, how about taking a Dr's salary to win your first Cup? Yeah, right!

miller76 463 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 (edited) I wouldn't be surprised if Sundin just took the year off and returned next year for a whole new saga called "Sundin Watch." But if he plays this year he probably will sign with the Rangers. Just my opinion of course. A lot of rumor talk with fitting him in to NY, they would need to move Gomez, and Vancouver keeps popping up as a destination. But hell, who knows at this point. I almost could care less about this Sundin situation. It's just getting old waiting for this guy to figure out what he wants to do. Holmstrom96Screens 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2008 I being someone who has followed Mats since nearly his rookie season in 1990, I knew he would not be a red wing ! Guess there'll be no eatin crow for me since I have been saying all along that he will never ever wear the winged wheel. Been sayin that ever since he first became a FA on July 1.
