Chelios, McCarty to return

Your 4 year old has an opinion on what constitutes overboard profanity?

my boy can read and say 'F-U-C-K'. And looks at me and says thats a bad word dad!

You know, I cant help but grow old from the maturity and anger of some posters online. If someone can't get their point across without reverting to capitalized 'F' bombs and personal attacks on others, then there's a personal problem. I mean were talking about hockey and our favourite team. Were not talking war and religion here!

I haven't gone overboard. I've had to deal with this guy calling my posts stupid and a waste of bandwidth in like 6 threads for the past week. I would call it justified and not overboard. Especially when 99% of the time I refrain from using profanity and I typically will refrain from posting in duplicate threads other than to note that they are duplicates if mods do not appear to have noticed them and they have been around for a while. I do not come on these boards to receive personal attacks in every thread I post in over the fact that I posted something that another poster felt was erroneous because I posted it in another thread with the same topic.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go "spam" the 86 other topics dealing with what defenseman might be traded away with my opinion that Lilja is by far the most likely answer due to his age, salary, and performance.

Still no excuse to start dropping F Bombs because someone dared to disagree with you.

Damn, a nice heated thread for summer time, so I might as well inject my two cents worth.

Overall, I agree with with what Eva is saying. I've looked at the salary cap chart on this website in depth, and if Mac and Chelly are signed, getting rid of two young defenseman will leave them right about where they are now, if they both stay on the roster.

With what has been reported previously, Mac's contract is going to be a two way contract, which could provide a bit more relief if he or another roster player (who would have to clear waivers) are in GR at any point in time, but it is not a lot of t-u-m-s.

So with all that said, I think Lilja and his agent played his hand well this off-season, and he was aided by Stuart's reluctance to sign, so good for him. He had every right to play it like he did. However, just because he played his hand well at that point doesn't mean that Holland has to refrain from playing his hand now to put the Wings in a stronger position by maintaining (some would say upgrade) the blue line. Lilja's salary coming off the books without the defensive corp taking a hit in their level play is a good idea IMO, and I think the idea that Holland can't make that move out of some sort of weird respect for Lilja is ridiculous. This is a business, and Lilja does NOT have a NTC. If Holland can trade him and put the Wings in a better position, you can bet your ass he will.

Now, as for the personal shots:

Doggy, you do have a way with getting in your subtle shots and looking clean as a whistle on the other side. Eva has been around here a lot longer than yourself, and so have I for that matter. Eva is a positive and regular contributor to the site, and to call his posts stupid is ridiculous and conveys your own ignorance.

Eva, you lost your cool, which wasn't cool.

Last but not least, our mods are the best around, and they are a big reason why this site is one of the best team fan sites on the web, period. I've never been asked to be a mod, but if I were, I don't know if I would accept. They have to put up with and clean up a lot of crap around here while maintaining their neutrality and composure.

I 100% agree with you. I've said the same thing in another thread and had a couple people jumping on my opinion as well. Obviously it's gonna come down to performances at training camp and preseason, but Lilja was only ever resigned incase Stuart left. Holland said that himself before July 1st.

I've been chastised for far less on this site during arguments with Legionairre... I think I found the censored board at your place, it was cut off for bad jokes.....

The Wings currently have 22 players signed who cannot be sent down without clearing waivers. This does not include contracts for McCarty, Chelios, or Quincey. The Wings, with only these 22 contracts included, are only $400k under the cap. The Wings intend to carry 23 players, the roster limit. The NHL minimum salary is $475k.

Please explain to me how the Wings will be getting out of this situation if not by clearing cap space, which CANNOT BE DONE BY REMOVING MINIMUM SALARY DEFENSEMEN such as Meech.

Here; I'll detail it for you. We'll assume that Chelios, McCarty and Quincey are signed to league minimum deals since they are unsigned. This pushes the Wings to 25 players; which is 2 over the roster limit and 1.025m over the cap with 14 forwards, 9 defensemen, and 2 goalies. We'll assume that McCarty, the worst forward, is waived and sent down. This puts the Wings with 13-9-2 at about 625k over the cap. Please, oh wise one, tell me who gets sent down to Grand Rapids next that gets the Wings under the cap?

Would it be Meech and his 483k cap hit? How about Chelios or Quincey with their 475k hits? Lebda with his 650k cap hit would do it, but would leave the Wings butting right up against the cap. Oh, I know; is there a defenseman who makes more than Lebda, Meech, or Quincey and is competing with them for a position? Why yes, yes there is. Andreas Lilja, and his 1.25m cap hit. Please stop wasting bandwidth by forcing me to re-explain this to you over and over.

Why are you being so bitter and getting so angry? Enjoy life, relax, who cares if you know your right. Take pride in that and don't let it bother you if someone else is wrong. I hope you have a nice easy relaxing holiday. :)

As for the trades...I agree Lilja makes a lot of sense but on the other hand a sign and trade has never been the Wings style. As for the real topic of this thread Chelios coming back...I can see how some wouldn't want to let go of a prospect to keep a defensman on his last leg, however you should take some relief in the fact that Holland would never jepordize the future of this team. If a player is worth keeping he'll get it done. And part of what makes this system work is the belief that if the players in their prime are loyal to the team when it comes to contracts, they will be take care of their entire careers. If you don't think Zetterberg looks at how the Wings treat their long time older players when he thinks about taking below market value to stay here your mistaken and that in it's self makes keeping the veterans around well worth it.
