Preds suspend Radulov indefinitly without pay

I honestly think if the Predators went an entire season with a decent amount of luck (no change in ownership, not losing numerous key players to injury/KHL/Planet Zorn, etc...) they would probably miss the playoffs. They simply would not know what to do.

You do have feel bad for Nashville they can't seem to catch a break.

Actually, I don't feel bad for Nashville at all. I don't care for that hockey market (if you want to call it that). I don't think its necessary to keep a team there on life support indefinitely.

The only thing I don't like about this is Radulov is under contract. IMO, he has every right to go home if that's what makes him happy. However, some restitution is necessary. I don't think he should be barred from playing anywhere outside the NHL b/c what would that accomplish? Forcing him to play for Nashville when he doesn't want to would be a mistake. And taking away his livelihood would be a mistake. Let him play in Russia but have him or the Russian club that signed him have to pay some amount for restitution. I don't think the league should have to give them any picks either.

I don't shed no damn tears for Nashville.

why should he be allowed to play anywhere else, f*** his livelyhood, he signed a contract that didn't have an outclaus so he can either make his lively hood finishing out his obligation or work at burger king.

I'm glad. This KHL bulls*** is getting on my nerves. Maybe nex time that punk Radulov will be a little more loyal to his organization.

Their season has already started, and there are some clips floating around of Chris Simon beating some Russian to the ice.

I thought fighting in hockey was illegal overseas, but then again I could be wrong, since I don't know much about their rules except what I've heard.

Did you completely miss part of my post?

Why would the Predators want to bring him back? He doesn't want to play for them. He'd be a cancer in the locker room. No good would come forcing him to play for Nashville.

Now, what do the Preds gain by letting him play in Russia? Well, as I mentioned, hopefully some type of financial restitution. Keeping in mind that should Radulov ever return to the NHL, he'd still be under terms with the Preds.

Not allowing him to play elsewhere is merely based on scorn, anger and small mindedness and not on any sound business practice.

Nothing is gained by forcing the kid to be unable to earn a living or having to earn a living playing for a team he doesn't want to play for, in a country he doesn't want to live in.

Your mode of thinking is based purely on emotions and not logic.

Radulov 0

Actually, that score is incorrect. It should be the other way around.

Radulov signed a $3.5 million dollar a year for 3 year deal. With the predators, he would have only gotten $900,000. If there is a 1-0 leader here, its Radulov. He is making more money than he would with the preds and the preds lost a man they could have used thats for sure.

I am not saying his decision was the right or wrong. A contract is a contract and I would honor the deal I signed. However, you have to look at it as a job. If you signed up to do a job for 3 years, and 2 of the 3 years are horrible and you were offered another job, would you take it? What about if you could get by with a loophole to get you out of your current deal? What about if it was for 3x the money you were making.

Whatever makes him happy I suppose.

The funny thing is about Radulov is he played junior hockey in Canada, so it's not like he's one of these guys that was drafted out of Russia, failed miserably after one or two seasons, and then left again for greener pastures (guys like Igor Knyazev, Alexei Kiagorodov, Alexei Mikhnov, etc. are just a few names that recently did such a thing). He had some pretty good seasons with Nashville.

I highly doubt he's ever coming back after a stunt like this. Is it fair to call him a draft bust?

I agree. A contract is a contract.

I don't understand your logic. How is Nashville, or the NHL, or anyone for that matter supposed to stop him from playing for another club?

What are they supposed to do?? Break his legs. It's not like they allowed him to f*** off to the KHL.

Gotta consider the big picture, though. While players like Radulov may think they've got it made in the KHL, the fact of the matter is this: the NHL is The Big Time, and the KHL is not -- and will never be. With all that that that entails, Radulov is, despite his fatter contract, taking a big risk with his career at large by flipping off the NHL.

As Kp-Wings pointed out, the really funny thing about this story is that Radulov, for all his nationalistic, anti-NHL blathering, is a product of North American Hockey. If he thinks he's going to be "taken care of" just because he's a Russian with a thorn in his side, he could very well be in for a rude awakening.

They should also change his name on franchise stats to "Ivanov Ivan Ivanovich", Russia's equivalent of "John Doe", just to show how little he matters.

While I think Radulov can do what he wants I also think he should be made to honor his contract. It's just going to hurt him in the long run since people will question his loyalty wherever he goes now. Hope he has fun playing for the Putin Cup.

It's not like Nashville was an actual Stanley Cup Contender...
