Barrie 900 Report post Posted October 11, 2008 Here's my thoughts on last night's game. 1) I can't believe all the analysis about the first game of the season. I hope people aren't freaking out after the first of 82 games. 2) We hit two posts and a cross bar before Toronto's PP Goal. If one of those 3 went in, it would have been a different story. 3) We turned the puck over because we were behind and had to take chances to score. Over all it wasn't the way we're used to seeing our Stanley Cup Champions play, but with 82 games in the regular season, we'll have a bad game every now and then. If we play poorly in our first 10-20 games, then it's time to be worried.

55fan 5,133 Report post Posted October 11, 2008 (edited) Since I didn't see the game, I called my parents to get Dad's input. Dad knows hockey. Mom, on the other hand, knows that you put the puck in the net and get a point. She also thinks that Mickey Redmond looks like a very nice man. So I asked what happened last night, and before Dad could answer, Mom jumped in with "You know how they usually play so nice together? Passing the puck to each other and working together? Well, last night they just didn't." There's our answer. They have to play nice together. Seriously, it does sound like they just need to gel with each other. That's the nice thing about an 82 game season. It'll happen soon, and we'll be in great shape. I have to say, though, I'm really surprised, given the usual temperament of the board, that the only people running screaming into the night are the ones doing it jokingly. And that's how the Cup changes everything. Edited October 11, 2008 by 55fan

Im glad the season has started... a win would have been nice but there are 81 more games to go and I can see them playing well. 55fan 5,133 Report post Posted October 11, 2008 he's not? (really, i dont know) I didn't mean to imply that he wasn't. Just that he's the only one Mom can recognize by sight. I've heard he's very nice.

Vladiator 116 Report post Posted October 11, 2008 Loudest crowd at the Joe that I have ever been at (wow those Leafs fans are just nuts). These lines rarely played in preseason so chemistry still needs to happen. Give these lines a few more games and things are going to get much better.
Casey 145 Report post Posted October 11, 2008 They simply need to get back in the swing of things. Even without adding Hossa, they made some pretty heavy shifts to the lines. I've seen football teams move one player one position (say, outside linebacker to inside linebacker) and even that minor change requires some time to shake out. Never_Retire_Steve 35 Report post Posted October 11, 2008 I agree with the chemistry thing....... pretty much every forward on the team has a new linemate
