They're being outhustled, losing the race to most loose pucks, not being physical; these things are not part of a recipe for success. Where's the relentless backchecking from last season? Where are the big hits, battles in the corners and willingness to go to the net? They're trying to get by on pretty play instead of working hard for it. This is lazy, disinterested, 2005 vintage Red Wings style hockey right now. And Osgood looks like his head isn't in the game at all.

It needs to start with a big hit or a fight to get the crowd and the team fired up. The latter is impossible with this lineup, but Kronner could at least lay out a big, open-ice hit to get something going.

Not sure what to say. We look so flat and aren't playing with any intensity. The lines just aren't clicking. I though the 1st line looked good, Datsyuk was great and Hossa had a few pretty heavy shots. I think he'll get his first as a Wing tonight.

Second line was okay but didn't generate many quality scoring chances. Didn't see Hudler but I look at the event summary and realise why. He played less than 90 seconds, the lowest of ANYONE on the team. Staggering. I realise we didn't get a PP but cmon Babs, stop treating him so poorly.

Not worried about this game because we're only down by 1 despite playing so bad.

I noticed that too. Unless Huds is injured, theres no reason to low-ball him like that. Especially when there are plenty of players who have been doing worse.

Well...

2 bad bounces and we're down 2-1. Can't blame the bounces, as that happens, but we're still not looking as crisp as we have in the past. Too early to panic, though.

That first period left a lot to be desired.

Having one of our top offensive guys out, and thus juggling up all the lines, is tough this early in the season when everybody is starting to get used to their linemates. But that's neither here nor there. I'm looking for guys like Filppula and Hudler to step it up. Hossa is starting become a bit problematic, in my opinion. I'm not sure the chemistry is there with Datsyuk, and the two seem to be playing around each other more than with each other.

Anyway, some weird bounces tonight to be sure. Also, I still don't quite understand why Rafalski's penalty was called after the time was put back on the clock. It just doesn't make any sense. How do you record that on the scorecard? What time do you put down? Because, technically the penalty never happened.

Blah. Wings need to step it up.

Actually, they never did put the time back on the scoreboard, which means the refs committed two screw-ups there.

Yeah, I agree with this. And it hasn't been just tonight. He's had lapses like this in all three starts.

I'm not worried or anything, but it's a bit puzzling.

Yeah, it sure looks like it. Not sure if that will mean anything in another couple of months, but they look like they're going through the motions right now. I think it's almost inevitable.

The sad thing is, Vancouver isn't even playing that well. They've had some moments of pressure, but not much has been sustained and their PPs have been easily thwarted. There are plenty of miscues and lose pucks from Vancouver's defenseman as well, yet no ones doing anything about it. We're struggling to beat a team that is again, mediocre.

And where the hell is Hossa's intensity through all of this? He got the puck stripped from his stick Sammy-style as he entered the zone and he doesn't even skate full-speed into the zone on the breakaway short-handed even AFTER he realized he was alone. He had some good moves and plays, but hes been incredibly inconsistent, which is the last thing I'd expect from a guy whos suppose to be the catalyst for this time to repeat as Champs.

Here's Rule 36.8 if anyone cares.

36.8 Verification of Time - In the event that a goal is awarded by video

review even though play continued, the Penalty Timekeeper must

adjust any existing penalties, according to the situation. The clock

must revert back to the original time the goal was scored. If a penalty

was in the process of being called, it will revert back to that time also.

We had worse games than this last year. We're just missing Hank a little right now.

*giggle* Someone just sent me this when I complained about Palin dropping the puck at that Flyers game...

And knowing how the Flyers were last season...

2nd underway. Let's see if we can get an actual EFFORT out of our guys. I'm looking at you especially, Hossa.
