Tampa Bay's Uber Offense...

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I find it always brightens my day to take some time and appreciate when another team is failing miserably.

Tampa Bay, with all their offensive acquisitions and moves in the off-season, as well as bringing in our old friend Barry Melrose, is off to a blistering start: Currently winless with an 0-3-2 record and averaging all of 1.60 goals per game (dead last in the NHL).

Ha! Ha!

The fans really are behind the whole "Tanking for Tavares" thing, aren't they? Can't really blame them... but man, what a painful season this could be (and then not to get him)!

There are three great kids (and then some) at the top of next year's draft.

Tavares. Victor Hedman. Magnus Svensson Pääjärvi. Any one of those three would help out the Leafs quite a bit.

It's not that painful, they're a fun team to watch and all of the kids go out and bust their asses. They might get Tavares, they might not, but they'll get somebody that they can really build around.

When you don't put the focus on wins or losses, losing by one goal or two goals isn't a big deal.

So have I. The more they lose this year, the better it is in the long run.

That has sort of been Toronto's strategy over the past 20 seasons or so... and it hasn't gotten them very far during that time span so I'm not really sure it isn't time to rethink the "losing today=winning tomorrow" strategy. Then again if hockey geniuses like Harold Ballard and Cliff Fletcher think it's the best way to run a franchise then who am I to argue

You're lumping Cliff Fletcher in with Harold Ballard? Is that the level you have to stoop to in order to criticize a rebuilding phase?

Contrary to your opinion, the Leafs have been anti-rebuilding for about 40 years now. This is truly the first time that they've stripped the team down on purpose with the intention on starting over. There's been no quick-fix and there won't be.

Dale McCourt, Joe Murphy, Brian Lawton, Alexandre Daigle, and Patrick Stefan.... all "great" kids taken at the top of the draft that never lived up to expectations. There are no sure things in the world of nhl drafting. If Toronto rushes the prospect or fails to provide adequate support for him then having those high draft picks may not mean all that much. Kinda reminds me about a story involving some chickens and how you shouldn't count them before they hatch <_<

Of course there's no guarantees, but you stand a lot better chance of landing a prize chicken at 1st or 2nd overall compared to 15th or 20th overall.

There's been a hell of a lot more 1st overall picks that have worked out compared to the ones that haven't, especially in recent years when scouting has become a lot more comprehensive.

Agreed. Proof is in this thread.

Not to mention theres so much more than just picking a player and having him be a superstar. He has to be in the right system,at the right time in his development to play an the NHL and in the right mindset. I can almost guarantee that if Zetterberg and Datsyuk were thrown into the NHL at 19 or 20 they would have failed and we would have never heard from them again.

egroen,

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. With a colicky baby, I have had little time to browse the site. I even find myself NOT knowing who is playing on a daily basis - these things I am not used to.

This thread has really made my day!!! Suck it, Melrose!
