Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted October 25, 2008 Honestly I would rather Quincey over both these clones of one another. Lebda's meant to be quick and be able generate scoring chances while Meech is meant to be skillful and also handy on the offensive end. Quincey is meant to be a defensive defenceman and yet he has more points than Lebda and Meech combined and not to mention he’s far better defensively. Poor decision by Detroit. I guess pre-season doesn't mean much eh guys? Hopefully some people realise this now.

YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted October 25, 2008 So Quincey scored a goal - something that is probably only going to happen once in a blue moon with his weak shot - and so that makes him better? Spare me. Quincey had his chance with the Wings. He lost it. The fact that he lost it to guys like Lebda and Meech is not a mistake on the Wings part, but Quinceys own. If Quincey were in the lineup tonight, we'd be bitching about him just as much as the other two.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted October 25, 2008 I said it when they waived him, you dont judge a guy on his pre-season. I'd love to have him over Lebda, but since we cant, I hope he continues to prove Holland wrong, and keeps having a great career, he's a good kid.
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted October 25, 2008 I would love to never see Ledba again, he brings nothing, but I like meech. I think a Lilja - Meech third pairing would be best.

That's the best solution. Meech has had one good game, and tonights mediocre game, give him the full time duty and see how he does with a defensive d-man, and not... Lebda. Quincey * 2004-05 OHL hardest-shot competition co-winner with Mark Methot (95 mph) I would not consider 95 mph weak.
DatsyukownzU13 1 Report post Posted October 25, 2008 Quincey > Lebda, maybe. But Quincey > Meech is pretty premature. None of them are as good as Ericsson, who will be the next defenseman to get a real spot on our team.

I wonder how he rigged the machine. Or what his aversion is to showing off his shot when it actually matters.

He has the worst +/-, right behind Hudler. Lilja is even in +/-. Are you being sarcastic? Edited October 25, 2008 by Z and D for the C

And not only is the bad plus/minus a reason for him to come out, his defensive gaffs and miscues are costing goals and scoring chances. I havent seen a overly great play by Lebda so far all season. Lilja has made the smart play up the boards, or off the glass in any danger situation. I hope he gets better soon. Edit: No, no, I was agreeing with you haha. Guest Crymson Report post Posted October 25, 2008 (edited) That's the best solution. Meech has had one good game, and tonights mediocre game, give him the full time duty and see how he does with a defensive d-man, and not... Lebda. Meech had the full-time duty last February, when he was essentially our #2 D-man (and even our #1) for a few games while Chelios, Rafalski, Lidstrom and Kronwall were all injured. Lebda and Lilja were still in the lineup, but Meech basically took the #1 spot amongst them all at some points throughout. He has great potential if he is given the ice time, and he has skill and leadership potential and a great work ethic on the ice, and he showed it. Per Lebda: Lebda is having a bad season so far, yes. Given that he has proven himself in the last two seasons and given that his number of defensive gaffes is unusual, I think that suddenly classifying him as "terrible" when a point of comparison comes up is sort of silly. I'd like to see him play more, he's a good defenceman, he can play the PP too.

I guess pre-season doesn't mean much eh guys? Hopefully some people realise this now. I'm not throwing Quincey's playoff run out the window a few seasons ago, but it's pretty evident that it's becoming a distant memory. All the lower-tiered defensemen knew the game plan for the Wings this preseason/early season. One of them would be traded or not on the roster if they didn't perform in the given time period, due to the salary cap. Fair or not, that was the guideline. I don't get to see preseason games not living in the immediate Detroit area, but if Quincey was traded, it's probably a good bet he didn't perform at the highest level over Lebda, Meech et al when asked to given the time frame. I'm indifferent on Lebda, and we haven't seen enough of Meech yet I think to say he deserves time over any other lower-tiered defensemen on the Wings. I think you are jumping the gun though on Quincey being better than these two, when he hasn't even had a lengthy season of full playing time, much less half a season as a full-time defensemen on the NHL. Heaton 1 Report post Posted October 25, 2008 When was Quincey going to get 20+ minutes to contribute? Meech looked good last year when he was getting 20+ minutes as well. Quincey scoring a goal and an assist against a Blues team with no defense and a rookie goalie isn't exaclty something to hang your hat on.

Barrie 900 Report post Posted October 25, 2008 Losing Quincey won't make one bit of difference, even if he turns out to be a better player than Meech and Lebda. We still have Ericsson and Kindl in Grand Rapids.

Guest MrSandMan Report post Posted October 25, 2008 It's a shame, we didn't even get anything in return for Quincey, did we? I'm glad he'd doing well. I might be the minority here, but I was sad to see him go.
