Slave 31 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 yeah was wondering, is Leino in tonight or are they still waiting for the swelling to go down b4 they decide what to do with Franzen?, not seen anything on this yet and was just wondering. Thanks
CenterIce 83 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 They are waiting to see how well Franzen initially heals. They don't want to put him on Long-term IR, unless they have to, and that is the only way Leino would be brought up.
Johnny Law 15 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 They can apply the LTIR retroactively so I imagine they will decide after the SJ game what they want to do.
The Mule 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 I'm torn. I want Franzen back as soon as possible, but on the other hand, I want Leino to have the opportunity to strut his stuff with the Red Wings. However, I suppose looking at it that way, I won't be too upset with whatever decision is made.
up2here 41 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 I'm not sure I understand the logic in NOT putting him on LTIR. Are they thinking he could be back in couple weeks? Maybe someone here could explain the ramifications of putting a player on LTIR.
egroen 384 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 (edited) I'm not sure I understand the logic in NOT putting him on LTIR. Are they thinking he could be back in couple weeks? Maybe someone here could explain the ramifications of putting a player on LTIR. A player has to miss 10 games or 24 days, whichever is shorter, to qualify for LTIR status... so even if Franzen is good to go, he would have to sit out that long. That is the risk. LidstromIsASuperhero 29 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 At the same time, if he does take long to heal, say the whole 24 days, aren't they cutting into that by not putting him on LTIR right now? For example, say they wait a week to find out what's up before putting him on LTIR, and then he takes the whole 24 days on top of that but is fine right after. If that happens we'll be missing out on this week we didn't put him on LTIR but at a future date. I can't make this seem non-confusing but it's simple... I believe they can put him on Long term IR retroactive to the first game he mised if they decide it is necessary.
Icesurfer 75 Report post Posted October 30, 2008 The whole point is that if the Wings were not close to the salary cap (i.e. if they had more space than they do) Leino would have been brought up already and be getting some valuable NHL playing time and planning for the future in terms of who stays and who goes. What a waste. All because Holland made the "Burke-blunder" of operating too close to the cap.
Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted October 30, 2008 I believe they can put him on Long term IR retroactive to the first game he mised if they decide it is necessary. Yes, LTIR is retroactive to the date of injury, not to the date the classification was made.

ben_usmc 253 Report post Posted October 30, 2008 listen guys it was stupid to bring Hossa in when we picked up a prospect from another league who hadn't had a chance to play in N.A. style rinks. STUPID HOLLAND, how dare you pick up the most wanted FA at such a cheap price, please please bring in Lowe.

Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2008 I'm sure everything is just preliminary with Franzen. They don't want to force him to play just because he is hot as a pot right now where he could potentially get an injury and be out for even longer.

That is great news. It's a shame that he got hurt this year. He has really been on a tear since the end of last season. I really want to see what kind of numbers he can put up playing in all 82 games.
