Most Boring Champions

Read the bottom one.

Nicklas Lidstrom, Stanley Cup champion. The Detroit Red Wings' captain is a pleasant, exceedingly competent, soft-spoken gentleman -- which is exactly what you don't want in a freakin' hockey player! The defenseman is the symbol of the Wings' numbingly boring style of hockey, and making hockey boring is quite a feat in itself.

Then they follow it up with this article.

This is a typical, "I can't beat 'em, so I'm gonna make fun of them" attempt that truly grasped at straws. You know you've reached new levels of stupidity when you rip on Champions for not being assholes.

Congrats Jay Busbee, you are the dumbest sports writer I've ever encountered.

It is articles like these that remind me of the greatest response in the history of man...

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

This is a joke, having the puck the whole time with some of the best offensive players in the game while playing for an organization with rabid fans and deep seeded tradition is boring. Better alternative: the NASCAR Predators?

Nick Lidstrom is boring. There's nothing wrong with that, but he is the least flashy, least controversial player in a sport that doesn't have a lot of controversial characters. That takes some doing.

Not in eyes.

I could just watch him all game and be completely happy. I see him do things out there that just put me in aw.

He may not be the big hitter that you all like. But the way he contains the best forward in the league and the moves he makes and the way he makes them look so easy is very exciting to me!!

There's no way of either confirming or denying this since it's rooted in bias, but I suspect you (and the rest of us) would feel differently if we weren't actively rooting for him. I mean, when Lidstrom takes the ice, nobody is holding their breath waiting for him to do something spectacular. Every shift is more or less the same. That's where his greatness lies.

Lidstrom is boring. Yzerman was boring. It has nothing to do with their style of play. Its all about personality. ESPN did this to sports. People like to talk about Chad Ocho Cinco and Terrell Owens. They like steroids. They like all the controversy. How boring would it be if every hour of every day all you heard was "In sports, Lidstrom lead by example on the ice scoring 2 goals while accumulating 0 penalty minutes. He told his team were gonna be classy and not goon it up. In a related story, there has been 0 use of steroids or other illegal drugs in every sport and no prima donna wide receivers changed their name."

Why do you think sean avery is so famous? because he can score like gretzky and fight like probert at the same time? NO! its because hes says and does stupid things. the stars will figure that out soon if they havent already. Its the same reason why sports writers almost never Joe Sakic yet the Bertuzzi incident is still being talked about.

Avery isn't famous. He is just talked about a lot. That doesn't make for good hockey or good sports.

He says that the Ducks were exciting because they were hard-nosed. Just because a team is hard-nosed and is going to get in a fight just about every game. Does not make it entertaining. To a point, yes, however, calling teams that don't fight boring is...well... It sounds like someone who has no love for hockey at all. And is payed to write s***ty articles.

Not that I'm objective, but I honestly think we're one of the more exciting teams to watch, just because of our ridiculous skill and execution level, when it's on, hockey has never been more beautiful. I think if you appreciate actual hockey (in other words, not just big hits and fights or whatever), we're very exciting.

I'd put the Pens, Caps, Oilers, Hawks and Sabres on my short list too. No Ducks. No Flyers. It's all just personal preference anyway though.

I agree that the Wings are boring...Probably the Most boring team in the league. I mean, if i wasn't a Wings fan, and i sat down to watch a game, and jsut saw one team dominate a game from start to finish, out shoot the other team by a 2-1 margin, and control the puck for 50 minutes of the game....I wouldn't be excited watching that 5-2 thrashing. If I was a fan of another team, and i had to watch my team jsut get picked apart and dominated by the wings for 60 minutes, i wouldn't be excited either. As a Wings fan, last years team was the most exciting team i've ever seen.

don't worry, the way we've been letting other tetams take over in the 3rd period of every game this year, I'm sure our games are Much more "exciting" to watch for Mr. Busbee, and all the other fans around the league.
