Detroit DOES have a #1 line

Just judging from the last few games, has anyone noticed the first line on the power play has been Zetterberg's line? Even when Dat's line did not just come off.

The Hossa / Datsyuk line has been getting maybe the last 30-45 seconds of the PP.

So I guess that would make the Z line the #1 line?

Last game, Homer had the most time, followed by Zetterberg/Hudler (tied), Datsyuk/Hossa (tied), and Franzen.

The game before that, Homer/Datsyuk/Hossa had the most time (tied), followed by Z/Franzen (tied) and Hudler.

Datsyuk's line is getting more PP TOI, but it's pretty damned close. I wouldn't call Z's #1.

Unless the play of one of the two lines just falls in the gutter, not really. It largely just depends on who is out there before a penalty gets called, at least to me. If Datsyuk-Holmstrom-Hossa are out there and draw a penalty, they'll likely get a breather for the first half of a power play. Vice versa if Zetterberg's line is out there.

I'd love to see Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Hossa on the same line for at least several shifts every game, just to scare the other team s***less.

That'd be something to see.

No need for that. We have Andreas Lilja, even from the bench, he scares them to death.

I just wanted to see if it was me, from watching the games and the PP starting, and watching to see who came out.

I, too, think they should try a Zetterberg / Datsyuk / Hossa / Lidstrom / Rafalski PP unit. Watch the other team wet themselves.

Zetterberg line seems to have more sucess keeping the puck in the offensive zone on the power plays. So i think thats why hes been starting to give them to first half. Take a shot at keeping the puck in the O zone disallowing a line change and hoping to create mistakes. thats my theory, but what do i know im only the king.

Hudler and Hossa share the team lead in PP points.

It seems to me as though the Datsyuk unit has a more difficult time gaining entry into the zone az well. So assuming this is true the Datsyuk unit is not as good at maintaining possession as well as gaining clean entry into the offensive zone as the Zetti unit. However the offensive prowess of the Datsyuk line does seem a bit more lethal. The question is can they get in and established and once their not only rip off one or two good shots before coughing it up.

Curt Fraser, the Griffins Coach, said last week that his philosophy is to put the "best" line out second on the power play. The opposing team usually puts their best Penalty Killers out first, so by the time the the best PP line comes onto the ice, the best PK'ers are tired and headed for the bench!

man you need stats to tell you that.LOL

No, but it's refreshing when statistically they are too.
