Trade:Steen and Colaiacovo for Lee Stempniak

Great trade for Toronto. I live just outside the city (and with a family of Leafs fans), so I'm very familiar with the Leafs and their roster, and if you ask me, this was an excellent move on Toronto's part. Steen has the potential to be a decent enough player, but this year, he his play has been very underwhelming, and he just hasn't meshed with the revamped Toronto roster. Colaiaccovo, on the other hand, has the potential to be great, but it's no secret he is as injury prone as they come, and he can't seem to get a full season under his built. Stempniak will develop into a very capable forward, and will be an important piece of Toronto's puzzle going forward.

Toronto wins this trade easily IMO.... Steen and Carlo have been looking more and more like busts, perhaps a change of scenery will do them well

I'd break it down into a 3rd line centre + a 5-7 injury riddled defenseman for a top 6 winger.... Great move by Cliff

I was surprised to see Colaiacovo go, he's played great and been a stand-up guy from what I've seen, although the Leafs definitely benefit from the trade.

That's true, but he's also never played more than 48 games in a season, and production outweighs personality.

Not a fan of this move by Fletcher at all. Really sucks to see a team with so many guys you got to see grow and develop, just to be shipped off and never given a fair shot. In any case, hopefully Coliacovo does great with St Louis, they finally have a guy I can cheer for now, unfortunately :P.

How many chances do you give the guys? Carlo can't stay healthy for more than a shift at a time and Steen's offensive ability has all but dried up.

I guess that's true. I just love the way Carlo plays the game, and it's a damn shame he couldnt stay healthy. Hopefully Stempniak provides the Leafs with some scoring. All I know is Don Cherry is not going to be happy about this, when just on Saturday he was saying how to give the guy a chance, because he always has the heart to come back from the injuries.

Wasn't Steen once deemed untouchable? Let this be a warning to you, Filppula fans. :P

They could've had Pronger from the Oilers if JFJ was willing to give up Steen (I believe Kaberle + Steen was the deal the Leafs backed out on)

It was Steen, Kaberle, 1st rounder for Pronger.

Kevin Lowe turned down the counter-offer of Kaberle, Stajan & 1st rounder.

And who says they need Burke?

I agree with that. Why not sign fletcher instead of burke? I mean hes doing all the right things... why change that?

And who says they need Burke?

Bob McCown on the FAN590 in Toronto, he does the 4-7pm show, finds the timing of the Steen-Colaiacovo-Stempniak trade very interesting. He thinks either Burke had something to do with it, or that Burke isn't coming to Toronto.

Oh I don't know about Steen... he could be good one day if he steps it up. He's had flashes... but compared to Stempniak??!? Dude! Potential top six winger and broken down d-man with upside for legitimate top six winger? Where do I sign?

Great move by Fletcher.

as a leafs fan im not sure how i feel about this trade....im no fan of steen but in years past, the few times where carlo strung some games together where he wasnt injured i liked him. and lee stempniak? is that really the best they could do? the trade almost seems like a wash and seriously whats with the timing? is fletcher fighting to keep his job? haha i know that doesnt make sense either but i should really quit trying to understand what the hell theyre doing over there.
