PROBIE4PREZ 58 Report post Posted December 2, 2008 (edited) Avery on Dion and Dating “I'm really happy to be back in Calgary; I love Canada,” began Avery. “I just want to comment on how it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds." haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted December 2, 2008 More evidence of how great he is for team chemistry: Are Avery's comments a distraction for the Stars? "You like to think not," said Turco. "We all are competitive enough and focused to get out there and do your job. But when it continues over time, you know, things certainly can be (distracting)." Brad Richards was more direct. "It's none of my business what he says and I'd rather not talk about Sean," said Richards. "He's got his own thing going on."
lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted December 2, 2008 Funny, but lots of guys are funny ... it's sad that he gets the attention just because he's an ass.
b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted December 2, 2008 what a tool. he is in love with his own villainy. funny for only so long, as you can tell by going to tsn.ca/nhl and seeing how his teammates feel about things after only a quarter season of his bulls*** and a losing one at that. Wings_Fan_In_Exile 3 Report post Posted December 2, 2008 I could see MAYBE a fine, but I'm surprised they actually suspended him. How uptight can the NHL be?
T-Ruff 47 Report post Posted December 2, 2008 Good move by the NHL... he crossed the line and went way to do so asking for a camera and calling the media around because "I just gotta say one thing" Though I'll admit it would've been an interesting game, ultimately I support the NHL's move....... egroen 384 Report post Posted December 2, 2008 ESPN just cancelled their contract talks with the NHL
skacore 2 Report post Posted December 2, 2008 HAHAAHAAAAAHAHAHHAHA worst move by the league ever are they ******* retarded??? this game was going to draw so much interest this just proves Avery's point about NHL marketing..... he's taken it upon himself to become the villain in a good vs. evil rivalry, but the NHL will have nothing to do with it terrible ridiculous i'd rather teabag a rusty old blender than watch this game now
egroen 384 Report post Posted December 2, 2008 (edited) I'm curious if the suspension will be closer to Pronger's 6th and 7th suspensions, in which he received one game each for elbows to heads - or if it will be closer to Pronger's 8th suspension in which he stomped on a prone player with the blade of his skate and received an 8 game suspension. Is the comment "sloppy seconds" closer to head-hunting or stomping in terms of crimes in the NHL? Edited December 2, 2008 by egroen

Is the comment "sloppy seconds" closer to head-hunting or stomping in terms of crimes in the NHL? I could even understand a suspension for something like what he did to Datsyuk earlier in the year, but I guess the NHL care more about this crap. Louisville 112 Report post Posted December 2, 2008 Hockey aside, real classy thing to call your ex-girlfriend. What a tool. Pffffft. Big Deal. What do you know about their relationship anyway? She's the one who dumped him so it's not like he needs to have a high opinion of her. Ex's say and do worse things to each other all the time and this wasn't even that bad. Anyway, I think it's a joke he's suspended for speaking his mind.
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted December 2, 2008 (edited) Well, he's certainly doing good marketing for the Dallas/Calgary game tonight. Who else is gonna watch? Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted December 2, 2008 I could even understand a suspension for something like what he did to Datsyuk earlier in the year, but I guess the NHL care more about this crap. I don't much care for Avery b/c I think his act gets tired. He's great at what he does, he just never lets up and you can have too much of a good thing IMO. That being said...............f*** BETTMAN! What the hell? You suspend the guy right before he is about to play a game that could prove to be one of the most entertaining of the year? Sure what he said was crass. But who cares. There are many reasons why Football rules over the other sports and hockey is mired near the bottom. You get a guy like Terrel Owens or Chad Johnson making an ass of themselves and its all over the air and people eat it up and want to see more. Avery, arguably the best personality the NHL has to offer makes some not so PC comments and takes a jab at the NHL brass when he says they don't know how to promote the players...and Bettman suspends him? This is a joke of a suspension under the most arbitrary reason the NHL has for suspending somebody. Avery is an ass. But he can play the game and he brings alot of what is sorely lacking insomuch as personality to our sport. Bettman doesn't get it. But then again he never has b/c he's a ******* idiot. isbister 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2008 Not saying I agree with Avery and the comments he made, but I think the NHL got it all wrong on this one. I don't think you should suspend a guy for a personal comment unless it's absolutely directed at another individual. Of course we know what he's talking about but he didn't say it direct. Its not slander. Its true. Suspend Dion to then for being guilty as charged even know he wasn't directly called out but implied by us. I just think hockey has way more to worry about then flippin AVERY all the time. Suspend people taking illegal hits, or even divers at that. Oh well just my opinion but don't get me wrong I think what he did was stupid, just not suspension worthy.

Anyway, I think it's a joke he's suspended for speaking his mind. Who cares who dumped who? Referring to an ex as "sloppy seconds" says a lot about what kind of man he is. I'm a little surprised, but glad they suspended Avery. His antics are getting old and taking away from the game. While it's a bit of an extreme measure, I think the league is drawing the line so a few years from now they don't have players legally changing their name to Ocho Cinco. One of the things I love about hockey is that there's great rivalries and things to talk about that actually involve the game. Then watch pregame shows for the NFL and NBA and there's usually at least one story about a player who's done something stupid off the playing field that has affected his team.
