Gnredwing 10 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 Does anyone besides me think that Howard should get a chance to start soon? Face it Osgood has been pretty bad so far and Conklin started off well, but latley he hasnt been much better than Ozzy. It seems the perfect time to try and shake things up and let Howard get a chance to prove himself. In the past Howard has always played well when he got his chance and who knows he could turn around the high g.a.a for the wings. Howard is not getting any younger and I think now is the time to see what he can do. Anyone agree?

Outsider 42 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 Howard is putting up similar numbers to Osgood in the AHL. I don't think he'd be an upgrade. ^^^What he/she said. Besides... Doesn't matter what anyone here thinks. Only matters what those within the OrganIzation think. And if anyone, ANYone, within the OrganIzation felt similarly to the way you feel..... Conklin would never have been signed this off-season. Nor would Larsson have been. Not to mention the fact that the Wings probably wouldn't have drafted McCollum in the first round. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 If Howard wants the Wings to give him a chance, HE needs to give them a reason to.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 Unless the Wings just start a long streak of playing bad/losing more than winning, or if one of Osgood/Conklin gets injured, nobody is going anywhere and the goaltending will be all right.
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 Is playing a goalie with minimal NHL experience in front of a struggling defense really the best idea? I would like to see Ozzie start the next couple of games against two quality opponents. It gives Ozzie a chance to build some confidence and is a good test for the defense to focus. The Mule 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 (edited) Howard is being outplayed by Larsson in the AHL, so if anything, now is not the time at all for his next chance. Edited December 3, 2008 by The Mule

sjradio 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 I would have to agree on Howard so far. He's not had a good first part of the season. Larsson has clearly been the better of the two goalies in Grand Rapids as of late.

AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 Proof that the most popular goalie is the one that isn't playing here. Really, folks. He has had YEARS to prove himself at lower levels. And has not done that. Let's not pin our hopes for this season on someone who cannot even dominate the lower league he has been playing in for the last several years. superstarsingh 23 Report post Posted December 4, 2008 To fault Howard for playing poorly in GR is a fair statement, but at the same time, the GR defense is nothing like the Red Wings defense. Is he a savior? No. But at the end of the day the Wings have rarely had a goalie who look at and say this is the guy. We have been successful because of strong defensive play accompanied by decent goaltending. But yes, Howard must EARN his shot.
CrossoverThrash 0 Report post Posted December 4, 2008 Might as well give Larsson a try, but i think Ozzy can work his stuggles out without it.
norrisnick 1 Report post Posted December 4, 2008 Howard is being outplayed by Larsson in the AHL, so if anything, now is not the time at all for his next chance. Wings were the first team to ever ice a starting 5 man unit of Swedes. It's only a matter of time before Larsson gets at least a cup of coffee to bump that record up to all 6. Which begs the question, has there ever been a complete starting lineup all of a single nationality (besides Canadian of course)? Though if you want to include Canada you could limit it to a single province like 6 Quebecois, 6 from Ontario.
