By any chance does anyone know whose starting in goal vs Chicago

My gut says Conklin. Nothing to back it up, but I'd bet Babs lets Ozzie sit a game or two and just practice to get his confidence back, start him against lesser opponents for a while.

Crazy. My gut usually only says pizza or vodka. My guess is Conklin does not taste very good. :yowza:

Yes and one Roy can do it with a team that doesn't compare to an All-Star team, while Osgood needs lock-down defence and a lethal offence. Good comparison you may want to try again, and next time try sticking to reality.

Roy has ever played on a team that wasn't a top notch team?

Let's hear the comparison.

I just read this article from M-Live. Wings confident Ozzie will return to form.

Babs has a lot of great things to say about Oz. Really good to hear.

Good article. I'm all in for supporting and encouraging Ozzie and the team. Sure, I want them to dominate every team they play, but that just isn't realistic. But bottom line: Win or lose, they're my team.

I don't think many would claim that Ozzy has played good this year - he has not. What many are saying is the D hasn't been good and Ozzy hasn't been good BUT Ozzy is a good goalie. Last year when another goalie was going through a similar slump not many said he had never been good, was one of the worst goalies, or that he didn't deserve his wins or his stats. That is what I don't like, not that people criticize his play lately or think he is in a slump but the contention that he has never been good at all.

(my bad earlier, didn't notice names attached to message  )

I actually never liked Hasek... I think it was mostly his style, worried me almost every time he made a save. Then there was 1998, the olympics were he beat out Canada.

But, for Ozzie it's been a long slump. I remember a point last season, right after the all-star game he had a couple bad games in a row, then when he found his groove again, Wings won 9 in a row. Lots of time in the season for that, if you get wins along the way, just makes things better. As long as the team is confident we have no reason to panic.

ozzie has always been an inconsistent up and down goalie. that goal last night that he let in when he should have been jammed on the post pissed me off. i feel like he's not as comfortable this season cause he feels that its on him to carry the team. last year he had hasek and they worked well 2gether as a tandom. not alot of pressure cause they each knew that the other guy was capable of backing them up. i like conklin and i think he's a solid goalie but i dont know that ozzie is comfortable enough with him to just let it go and me comfortable in net. that said, the d needs to tighten up a bit too. i keep feeling like the wings are playing terrible but their record is pretty darn good. we'll be ok, i just hope the d solidifies and the goalies start to settle in. we cant count on 5+ goals a night....

The Wings are NOT playing terrible. They are #2 in winning percentage (tied with Boston), #1 in pp%, #2 in goals/game, #3 in shots allowed per game, #1 in Face Offs.

The only thing that they are struggling with is goaltending. Obviously if their defense is #3 in the league in shots allowed but #22 in goals allowed, there is a goaltending problem. Earlier this year it was all around defense. That has been corrected.

The fact that our defense is #3 in shots allowed doesn't mean there isn't a problem with defense ... it's not always a matter of quantity, sometimes it's quality, and our defense is still having way too many breakdowns that result in easy scoring chances for the opposition.

I like Ozzie. But why should I want to see him in the net? He sucks at the moment. Team is the most important so I hope Conklin will play as many games as possible.

With Ozzie in goal the Wings have earned 26 of 32 possible points, or 81%. With Conklin, 12 of 18 points for 67%. If the team is most important, and gaining points are th emost important thing for the team, it would seem that Ozzie is the way to go.

lol i was so waiting for someone to post that.... Conk is perceived to be playing better.... so yeah lets play him!!!

Regardless of is Ozzie is struggling or not right now.. we win a vast majority more of the points with him in net than without... simple as that. We win more with him in net this year... CASE CLOSED!

thanks for looking it up btw, i didn't feel up to stats this early in the day on a saturday

I see last night even without ozzie in net... we still gave up 4

I am all for bringing up howie... but right now the wings management sees something fans don't see in him.

not saying they aren't bad... but low and behold we are still getting all that matters at this stage in the regular season.... POINTS per game. I don't care who is in net right now... points are all that matter.

it's so funny to see osgood fanboys spinning his play this season saying he has been good. He has been bad, just suck up and admit it. Bring up Howard and retire Osgood already.

And it is just as funny to see people on the way other extreme spew their stuff out as well. While Osgood is certainly struggling, you are suggesting replacing Osgood with a minor leaguer, who at least from what I have read in here, can't even outplay the other goalie in the minors? That's just not smart thinking.

No one is saying Ozzie has been good. But this crap ... "Bring up Howard and retire Osgood already" ... is the same crap we went through last year. At the beginning of the year it was "Hasek is crap", then after the ASG it was "Average Ozzie has lost his edge", then "we can't win with either goalie, let's trade for Toskala" ... well what happened? We won. Ultimately it was Ozzie in goal, but Dom played his part in getting us there too. The point is that goalies go through rough stretches. The team is winning, Ozzie will come around. Chill out with the overreactions.

Where has anyone said Ozzie has been good? Nobody (Ozzie included) has said that Ozzie is playing at a level like we witnessed last spring. It's people like you that recite crap like "bring up Howard" and "Ozzie should retire" that force reasonable people to intervene and defend Ozzie from outlandish statements like you make. You accuse people of blindly defending Ozzie, but you can't even realize that Ozzie's start has by no means been all his fault. Your overreactions are amusing and absurd considering how quickly it seems you turn on a player that was stellar in the Red Wings winning a championship.

Conklin gave up four goals last night and the Red Wings still WON, which is what has been happening to Ozzie most of the season. Should Conklin retire and Larsson come up and play now? The defense has room for improvement and so do the goaltenders. The great part is the Red Wings are 18-4-4 and have played nowhere near their potential yet.

If you are going to come in and bash Ozzie, at least try to look at the situation from a reasonable perspective.

It's to bad fans aren't giving the Wings credit for the amount of goals they are scoring. Everyone is pointing to the ones we're letting in, despite an outstanding 18-4-4 record. I know giving up a lot of goals isn't good for the playoffs, but it's only December, the playoffs are still 4 months away.

Personally I think the Wings are showing a lot of character this season. I'm sure opposing teams have the Red Wings games circled on their schedule and get up the most for them. So good for the Wings to score as many goals as they have to combat their opponent's extra energy when facing the defending champs.

We'll tighten it up on D, we've done it before and we'll do it again, I'm not worried. If you want to worry in December, to each their own.

I think lets go pavel's stats prove that Ozzie flat out wins games and has been a winner his entire career.
