chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted January 6, 2009 From MLive I know I'm in the minority with this, but when I try to be objective about Hossa and his salary, there is no way he deserves more than Pav or Z and even to an extent Franzen. Don't get me wrong-He can really score goals and protect the puck and draw penalties. He also produces highlight reel backchecking. But what if the puck is already down low and the Red Wings have to knuckle down and grind it out of the zone? I never see him win those battles, which Pav and Z do so on a shift-by-shift basis. As far as anticipating defensively and knowing what spot to be in so that you can get the puck back, Hossa is seemingly always chasing while Pav and Z are better at staying one step ahead of who they're defending. What are your thoughts? I never thought of that but I think that he's right...
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted January 6, 2009 (edited) He can score goals, he's the best back checker on the team (in the league?), he can protect the puck, he's huge (relative to our other top forwards) and he can draw penalties and he also has an awesome pass. What the hell else do you want from him? Would you like him to cook pancakes for you? Edited January 6, 2009 by Z and D for the C

wingslionstigers 12 Report post Posted January 6, 2009 You cant really dog him hes a super star player and brings alot to the table. Everyone has there strong and weak points you cant be mr everything. I'm not saying i disagree with him being weak in the defensive zone but thats the only part of his game you can pick apart. If Dats signed last year he would be getting somewhere in the mid 7s per year also aswell as Zetterberg will.
egroen 384 Report post Posted January 6, 2009 I think Hossa would accept a similar salary as Zetterberg, maybe even less, for a chance to stay on the team; but he will not get that chance and a free agent is almost always going to get more than what they would get from their current team. titanium2 867 Report post Posted January 6, 2009 Haha. Pancakes? "Why don't you purify yourself in the waters of lake minnetonka?" I think the main focus of that is the whole salary thing. Why should Hossa get more money than Pav or Z? Because that's how the market works? I don't know about "he has an awesome pass" though. Other than his pass to Franzen to tie up the game against the Coyotes I haven't really seen him as much of passer; moreso a shooter for other guys to tap in rebounds. The Mule 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2009 Not a single player in the NHL is perfect, but Hossa is close. He can't do it all, but he nearly does.

Pat 44 Report post Posted January 6, 2009 I don't agree with the comments because hossa is a great player and is just in a slump right now. However he needs to desperately improve on his 1 on 1 and 2 on 1s.. countless times we see big opportunities go down the drain because of lousy mistakes and bad stick handling. But theres one thing that really makes him exciting: When hes got his game on he is impossible to stop. I think he will wake up and play smarter(with the puck) as the season progresses. stormboy 47 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 if he were on a hot streak (which he isn't right now, but will be some time in the near future), this thread wouldn't exist. also, just for the record, thread titles with just the name of the player are starting to annoy me. you have lots of letters...say something about the thread other than just the player's name. but, that's just me. Like having dessert for breakfast. And yet never did I pause to think that in my own way I was paying homage to the Wings. Well, now that Hossa scored tonight will this thread be retracted? I swear some people on LGW are like the kind of person who checks their stocks every fifteen minutes and buys or sells with every penny increase or decrease. Earthhuman 8 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 There wasn't a single free agent that I would rather have signed this offseason over Hossa. He's here for a year, and then that money goes where it's needed. So there ya go.
kylee 727 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 he's impressed me in a ton of ways and right there with Datsyuk, he has been the most consistent player this year. He's a big bodied superstar that is a good two way player - i dont think you can ever have enough of those types. great to see him as a Wing and his success thus far. Guest MrSandMan Report post Posted January 7, 2009 Hossa is a great player and I'm glad he's on this team this year, but I wouldn't sign him over Zetterberg! Zetterberg is a better all-around-player and more dominant on the ice.
