Vinny Lecavalier on the move?

I'd say TB would be morons to give Lecavalier up, but given the current ownership, that'd be evidence to a trade.

I don't think Montreal has anything they both can and would give up that would make this worth it for TB. It's not just that TB would need picks and prospects, they'd need a leader and star (of which Marty is too old to do for long).

WOW!!! That is a monster contract to try and trade, not just the $10 large, but the length, we are not talking about a rental here, whoever gets this guy (Habs) would be in it for the long haul. Now Vinny is a top forward in the league and should be healthy for years to come, but that is still a big chance to take!!

The reward is high but so is the risk at 10 years almost $100 mil!

I wonder when will "Lecavalier to Toronto" rumours start.

because I'm sure like hell Vinny dreams of ruining his career

in TO mess

;)

I don't really think Habs will land him. that's huge money

and they'd have to move some $5M from ther salary to make

room for him only this year. had they not wasted $5M+

on Tanguay (I mean - honestly, who the f* is this guy to make

Getzlaf's/Gagne's money??) this could work but I really don't

see them coming away without dishing guy like Lang or A. Kositsyn

and then a bonus similar to Halak+Latandresse. because every

single GM in this league is aware they must do trades to accomodate

Vinny and everybody will shot to rip them off.

Keep in mind that Vinny's cap hit will "only" be $7.727. I'm not saying it'll be an easy trade (because it most certainly won't be), but it's not as if its $10 per for 10 years.

NFM25 great point but still that is a lot of money to pick up this time of year.

If say Vancouver did it thinking Sundin's money would be off the book (Not that they can fit him just an example) next season than it saves them the free agent market.

I see him willing to go to a young team that is good now yet has some history, like the Habs, seeing as he is long term signed and already seen the calamity of a poorly run franchise. The Habs have history and pride (too bad that didn't help the leaves uh sorry leafs.) and are a relatively young team. He could be there for 10 or so years and become the next great Montreal Canadian which has got to sound better in his head than the next great Coyote or Wild or Hurricane. I wouldn't blame him if he said it has to be O6 or a team that has been around for more than 20 years. I mean sure he got to taste sweetness from the cup, but it was fleeting and I am sure he would like another taste.

SIDE NOTE WARNING:

Can you imagine rooting for a team that went from success to s*** in one year! I mean sure the Wings did it under the old Norris Regime but who on here remembers that, seriously lived it!?

We are so lucky that this team is this good for this long!!! THANK GOD FOR THE ILLITCHES!! PIZZA PIZZA!

I'm sure fans in Montreal are salivating at the thought. They always thought they should have him anyway.

What do you think they would give up to get him?

Both Kostitsyns? plus picks? I have no idea but you think they could get the most from the Habs in trade value.

Well it would have to be someone(s) worth at least 7 mil

Mtl doesn't have any of those.

So then two players at least, so

Higgins + Plekanec + Koivu. (1.7 + 1.6 + 4.750) = 8.05

Bare with me here, Koivu is not the talent Vinny is, last year the fiasco with him saying the team wasn't good enough at the start of the season, and his contract expiring next season, Plekanec and Higgins are young and RFA's at season's end.

Bring in Vinny and make him the 'C' and start a whole new regime.

Granted mid season this is asking a lot for a team to overcome and not hit the s***ter, but to me and my make-believe franchise Vinny is worth it!

I would certainly bite at this offer, If I were Bob Gainey. Vinny is a bonafide franchise player. The only concern would be the effect of the cost in trade. The Habs are playing pretty sweet right now, a huge move of this magnitude could very well upset the applecart. Heck, I'd do it anyway... to have Lecavalier locked up long term is huge!

I agree with the upsetting the applecart statement. I think it'd be a huge trade for the Habs but I don't know if they'd want to change the chemistry of their team that dramatically in midseason.

He's also said that he didn't want to play in Montreal because it is a pressure cooker. He would be the team's biggest French Canadian star since Roy played there and he would be under a constant spotlight. He doesn't get that in Tampa, which he is probably ok with. It'll be interesting to see what happens in the next few days. It is essentially Vinny's decision to make whether he stays or goes.

If Vinny leaves, then St. Louis would be soon to follow and the Lightning will cease to exist.

If St. Louis leaves, think of what that would do to the Missouri economy :scared:

Lets not assume that playing for the Habs is every francophone's dream. Its a similar case to how us Red Wings fans think about players around the league, except magnified. You know how half the time you hear people make the justification that "well the Red Wings are SUCH a good organization that anyone would be CRAZY not to want to play with us." Same exact thing with the Habs. They think just because they're a great hockey city, compounded with the fact that a guy is french-canadian, hed be desperate to play there.

Tanguay was actually pretty vocal about NOT wanting to go to the Habs when the rumors started to circulate he'd be traded there.

These long contracts are so idiotic. DiPetro gets 8 years? Malkin and Crosby 8.5 million for what, 7 years each? What's the point? They should limit contracts to like 5 years max. What if the cap goes down 10 million over the next 4 or 5 years? Teams will be screwed. Plus these players are impossible to trade. The only long term contract which really made sense was Ovechkin's.

I honestly think this is a case of a TSN analysist talking out of his ass about a hypothetical trade just because it involves a Canadian player and a Canadian team.

If Lecavalier walks the ownership in Tampa has decided to fold up shop. Bettman will lose his s*** if that happens because the Coyotes are on the verge of collapse as it is.

Montreal is a really young team. If they trade for Vinny their ability to hold onto those kids just got a lot smaller. It can happen, but I honestly think it just part of the whole media machine in Montreal. Every year we hear that Montreal's trying to land all the biggest names.

I'll be shocked if Vinny ends up in Montreal.

French Canadians (and the French in general) are also notoriously racist, which plays a part I would imagine.

:P I'm assuming you're not American (otherwise it'd be terribly ironic to hear someone from the most xenophobic nation on Earth calling the French racist!).
