Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted January 22, 2009 Found this while browsing around the Uni Watch blog... Seems like the Referee and Linesmen uniforms will be getting much the same treatment as the jerseys did with the change last year. Here's the Yahoo Finance story about it. (Sorry, no pics yet). Features on the officials’ uniforms include stretch mesh in the underarm and back of the jerseys, a zipper-less neckline, numbers on the back and sleeve and an enhanced Referee arm bar design to allow for greater on-ice visibility. The uniform also features a microphone channel that allows the officials to maneuver seamlessly across the ice with their microphones securely fastened to them. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted January 22, 2009 In addition to the introduction of new officials jerseys, the jerseys that will be worn by the Eastern and Western Conference NHL All-Stars will include Reebok's patent-pending Smoothfit™ performance name and numbering technology, which allows players to move more efficiently on the ice and will contribute to improved moisture management. The Smoothfit™ performance name and numbering technology eliminates up to 35 percent of the weight inherent to the traditional name and numbering system, which in many cases, includes multiple layers of twill. Ah- finally they'll be able to remove all that terrible weight that numbers and lettering add to a player. I'm sick of seeing players struggle under the weight of their massive surnames. OsGOD 3 Report post Posted January 22, 2009 One of these days hockey fans need to shock the world by coming to a game all dressed in ref jerseys. i have been wanting to do that for some time... it would be blast standing up cheering for the ref "GOOD CALL!!!!" when the rest of the arena is booing... thats would be so much fun! i have thought about it in the past and with the new jerseys i will be getting a #22 i think
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted January 22, 2009 Good thing, that stretch mesh stuff, especially in the underarms, is really nice.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted January 22, 2009 This is what happens when you reach the peak of technology. You have nowhere else to go but to random specializations that don't have any affect. Well sort of. See in today's world 99.9% of all scientific and engineering innovations are incremental in nature. The days of quantum leaps forward in understanding are mostly past. Incremental innovation does lead to big leaps forward, but it takes many intermediate stages (vacuum tube computers didn't become microprocessors in one fell swoop). I'm sure hockey uniforms are getting more advanced and providing increased performance to players as compared to the knit sweaters of old! I'm not sure, however, that we need a press release to trumpet each tiny change in uniform technology!

Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Call me crazy, but did this need an article? Not bemoaning the posting of it here of course, just wondering why this was news to start with. I didn't think anyone gave a rip what the refs/linesmen wore.
