Kira 451 Report post Posted January 26, 2009 Now watch...the Islanders will pick him up only to have Columbus ****** him out from under their noses.
imisssergei 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2009 I'm saying this because it's true, not because I think it could or should happen. Gerber would do very well with the Wings. Here's why. Detroit is a very positive team. Even when there is a goaltending controversy, the players handle it with class and let things play out. Gerber would succeed in Detroit because he would be given a real shot to play (assuming one of the two goalies on the roster is somehow moved), and get to play/practice every day with world class talent. Dano, Spez, and Alfy are great players, but no one on the Sens roster comes close to the two-way talent Detroit has. Gerber also has success when he doesn't have a real threat behind him, with less pressure from within. Some people preform better in this situation. Look at his stats. Nearly every time Gerber has played very well, he hasn't really had someone pushing him, he has been the guy without question. He isn't what the Jackets are looking for, but I could see him doing well on the island.
Kira 451 Report post Posted January 26, 2009 And at this moment, the Islanders are desperate. I see this happening. And quick.
TheOwl 77 Report post Posted January 26, 2009 Now is the perfect time to pick up a goaltender. Teams like Boston, Anaheim, Columbus, New Jersey etc are swimming in goalies, great starters, and seemingly equally good back-ups. Although Detroit does have 2 great AHL goalies in Larrson and that other guy. Conklin is a steal though if we can keep him for like 2 million. Or what about Fernandez or Thomas, both will want a raise next season. Pick up one of those guys. Lots of options for Holland in that department.
theman19 47 Report post Posted January 26, 2009 Gerber is one of the most maddeningly inconsistant goalies i've ever watched. I got to see him play a lot when he was a hurricane. One game he would be perfect, the next game he couldn't stop a beachball.
cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted July 24, 2009 From Ottawa Citizen : Martin Gerber appears destined to live in Ray Emery's shadow. Of all the places Gerber could choose to continue his professional career, the former Ottawa Senators goaltender has landed with Atlant Mytischi of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League. He will effectively replace Emery, who put his own netminding career back on track by playing there last season before signing with the Philadelphia Flyers. Gerber, 34, signed a one-year deal with the Russian club in the hope of re-establishing himself as a top-flight goalie who is worthy of a good opportunity in the NHL. Before signing with Atlant Mytischi, Gerber was contemplating signing with the Pittsburgh Penguins as a backup to Marc-André Fleury, but opted for a situation in which he could play regularly. Valas19 50 Report post Posted July 24, 2009 Only, and I mean ONLY, if we can get Forsberg wrapped up in the deal. Oh! Oh! AND only if we can somehow still trade to get Chris Neil!!
Cern 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2009 Gerber is not an upgrade from Osgood He could be an upgrade from Howard. I guess we'll see how it goes and I'm not advocating we pick Gerber up, but Howard playing 30 odd games really worries me given how terrible he's been in his earlier experiments with the NHL. You can't show much there. Even Ryan Miller looked horrible his first bit of time in the NHL, before he got full time minutes.
