Mike 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2009 Well, say good bye to fighting in the NHL. It is only a matter of time now. R.I.P. NHL.

esteef 2,679 Report post Posted January 24, 2009 So has the guy ever had seizures before? Does he have a known medical condition? Was the fight the cause of the seizure? I mean there's a lot they don't tell you here. It's just, they were big, they fought, one had a seizure, end of story. Like they WANT that connection to be there between the actual fight and the seizure. Typical media, fanning the flames. esteef
b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted January 24, 2009 Yeah, saw this and we all know its going to give that 'stop-fighting' ball speed, whether its related or not.

Blueliner 69 Report post Posted January 24, 2009 Man, people need to learn how to fight and protect themselves. Take this fight for example:

The Mule 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2009 Fighting is a part of the game. If fighting goes, I go. Kevin Westgarth is my best friend's first cousin. It's awful this happened, but he's a monster. /end Pierre McGuire terminology
StaticWithABeat 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2009 So the seizure was caused by the other guy punching him in the face until he went down, which I'm fairly sure is the whole goal of every fight ever fought since the beginning of time. You should probably learn how to prevent that if you're an aspiring goon like Klotz. Sensationalist BS.

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted January 25, 2009 Well, say good bye to fighting in the NHL. It is only a matter of time now. R.I.P. NHL. Would all those who have had seizures on an ice rink while playing hockey please raise their hands? *raises hand* Hm. That's what I thought. Would everyone acting like if you don't support goons who have no skill above skill players who aren't the world's best fighters please learn that punching is a very small part of the game and is far less important than puckhandling or defense. tweekvp 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2009 I have a little news to anyone who wants to ban fights in hockey. Fights happen in basketball, baseball, football, soccer, and other sports that already ban fighting. I don't think a freak incident should change things. The tradition of fighting in hockey does more good than not. You'll see far more injuries if players start a baseball style dogpile than you ever will from two guys squaring up. IMHO
T-Ruff 47 Report post Posted January 25, 2009 (edited) Call it a prediction, a feeling/hunch, a logical observation/conclusion...whatever.... but I think its safe to assume given recent trends (OHL rule, these accidents, freak or not, more emphasis on skill, etc), that long-term, we are going to see fighting become a more obscure aspect of the game before it finally bows out all together.... I enjoy fighting in hockey and think its a great and important aspect of this great game, however, I just can't see it lasting any longer than 20-30 years.... It'll be a bit sad/sour for a moment.... But it won't stop me or 99% of you from missing a game, even if you don't know it yet Edited January 25, 2009 by T-Ruff

Banning the hockey fight from the NHL would lead to fewer fights but they still would happen as in all sports. I think the fights that do happen will be more chaotic and dangerous. Guest E_S_A_D Report post Posted January 25, 2009 Get well soon. Just a matter of time before fighting is gone from Pro Hockey; thus, the dissolving of revenue and fan support in the NHL. NHL will likely be a memory as of 2012.
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted January 25, 2009 Get well soon. Just a matter of time before fighting is gone from Pro Hockey; thus, the dissolving of revenue and fan support in the NHL. NHL will likely be a memory as of 2012. Quotes from GMs and the Commish himself regarding fighting 1/24 It took a long time for the NHL to adopt a rule making helmet-wearing mandatory, and Bettman wasn’t ready to demand they also stay on during fights. “We’re not going to have any immediate knee-jerk reactions,” he said. “We’re going to have to study things before we make changes, if we decide to make changes. I don’t think that there’s any appetite to abolish fighting from the game, and there are lots of reasons for that, including the fact that it’s been a part of the game. “I don’t think it’s the be-all and end all of our game. I always believed it is an incidental part of the game. But it is a part of the game.” ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “What happens when you have a tragedy of this nature, and that’s what it was, a tragedy, is there tends to be an overreaction in the media,” Brian Burke said. “Our job is to make sure this game is run properly, not to overreact, so I intend to listen. Any discussion about the elimination or abolition of fighting will be a very brief one. I don’t think there’s any support for that whatsoever, of a meaningful nature.”
