cardshockey28 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 When and why did the wings switch the A and C on the jersey's to the right side? I know its a stupid detail but I think every other team has them on the right and back when Yzerman wore the C it was on the left and was just wondering if there was any reason or story behind it
arnoldbuck 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I actually got asked this question by a lot of my friends who think wings jerseys look stupid this way. I cant be positive on the answer, but I believe this is the way our jerseys used to be/originally were. I recall a picture, from the Howe dynasty days, and I am pretty sure those letters were on the side the are now. Just a possible answer.

betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I thought it was because the logo/stitching was in the way on the other side. That was sort of the "official" reason given, but you notice a lot of other teams (Colorado, for example) with the A and C plastered right over top of a seam, and in Colorado's case, over the piping that goes along the seam. So I'm not too sure about that. Anyway I like it. It's a little uniform quirk that's uniquely ours that we can have without resorting to silliness like striping in weird places. The Door Man 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 (edited) I thought it was because the logo/stitching was in the way on the other side. Correct. From Uni Watch Blog "Two more NHL teams have unveiled their new uniforms. Let’s start with Detroit, where Reebok’s new tailoring template has forced the Red Wings to move their “C” and “A” designations to the other side of the jersey (full details here). But as Craig Barker points out, putting the designatory letters on that side is nothing new for the Red Wings." Yzersyukstromberg 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2009 Yeah that's exactly right, they used the new Reebok jersey design as a reason to make the switch, but personally, I think it was a clever move on their part to sell some more jerseys and bring back a bit of old Red Wings nostalgia. I like the look...
Chelichic 12 Report post Posted January 31, 2009 I was told that the Wing goes up to high and interferes with putting a letter on the left side. The Wings had to ask for permission from the NHL to move the Letters to the the other side where they would fit.
