Guest mindfly Report post Posted February 5, 2009 The Wings GM discusses his past success making deadline deals and the impact of the salary cap. http://watch.tsn.ca/nhl/#clip136757 Seems like it's a possibility with a trade between two players with equal salary and that according to GM himself I would love to see some gritty player like neal or a goaltender like anderson, they are pretty cheap as well aren't they? What kind of blueliner is realistic to get because he talk alot about blueline depth come playoff time...

What kind of blueliner is realistic to get because he talk alot about blueline depth come playoff time... Dallas won't even consider trading Neal. He's a budding power forward and he's only 21 years old. Anderson is no better than what we've got. The Wings have a lot of blue line depth -- they have nine NHL defensemen already. I can see them going for a fourth-line banger like Chris Neil (maybe that's who you meant) but other than that this roster is probably what the Wings are going to look like in the playoffs. Guest mindfly Report post Posted February 5, 2009 (edited) Sorry my spelling is bad, I meant Ottawa's Chris Neil... or is that also far-fetched? But only once in a 10year period they didn't make a move at the deadline, so statistically they probably will Edited February 5, 2009 by mindfly
redwingfan19 293 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 thanks for posting the vid, sameulsson for neil? contracts are almost identical and are both UFA after this year. Not saying it would happen but if kenny is looking to add something to the grit department then this deal would be perfect

They'll have no interest in a soon-to-be UFA.
RedWingAbner 13 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 This team scares me on so many levels. We need a goalie and a defenseman. I don't care if we have 9 "NHL Defensemen." Chelios is done; Kronwall has done his best 2001 Larry Murphy impression this year, and Rafalski seems a step slower.
redwingfan19 293 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 filpula for armstrong could be a good fit, both are about the same offensivly and armstorng is like a younger version of drake armstrong is a rfa after this year and would probaby wouldn't get anymore than what fil is getting now anyways and i definitley think atlanta would do that deal

Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 Flip for Horton Lebda + 3rd for Neal Horton is way better than Filppula, there is no way you could get Horton for just Flip. MAYBE Flip+Lebda+pick for Horton. Would be awesome though.

Not gonna happen.... 1 more year for Lidstrom and after that what we are going to do if we are going to trade Rafalski? With Kaberle, we have very good offensive def. not to expensive (4M$ isn't that much) and Kronwall... don't know what to say - he needs to play BIG (like last season playoff) every night... Agreed,Kronner is one of a few Wings who need to step it up. My thought process on Nick Lidstroms contract is interesting...My first thought is well at least after next year we wont have Nick's 7M contract to worry about then I think "Holy F%$# we might not have Nick!!" YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 We cant afford Kaberle even at 4m,plus he has a no trade clause. 1. The Wings could afford Kaberle if Kronwall was going back the other way, even with the 1M difference. 2. Kaberle's agent is assembling a list of about 10 teams that Kaberle wouldn't mind being traded to, and my guess is Detroit is likely one of them. 3. Kronwall has age on Kaberle, and thats it, and even then its only a difference of 3 years. 4. If the Wings added Kaberle, he would be a much better "insurance policy" in case Lidstrom retires than either of Rafalski or Kronwall. The more I think about it, a Kronwall + for Kaberle swap be an absolutely awesome deal, both for the playoffs and for the future. And it makes sense for Toronto in the future as well. They get a younger Dman that cuts some salary which allows them even more money to play for Cammy and JBo. And Burke apparently likes the idea of two brothers on the same team. Detroit would have to add to it though, since Kaberle is locked up at a great contract.
